Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jesse James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joey Marks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James's entrance music is Ballad of Jesse James. A fine choice. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jesse James! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joey Marks! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Felipe Paraventi and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! James doesn't manage to clinch there - Marks circles away.
James shoots in for a double leg but Marks sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. James avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Marks darts in trying to clinch and James counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Marks thinking. James throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Marks's waist but Marks gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing James off to one side. James tries to clinch up but Marks circles away and keeps his distance. Marks throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
James shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Marks shoots in for a double leg but James sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Marks feints and as James raises his hands in defense, Marks changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Marks avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
James has his foot on Marks's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Marks works his way back into a safe position though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. James is trying to control the position but Marks postures up. Marks sitting in guard, not really doing much. James is trying to control the position from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Marks tries to free his leg and advance position but James is retaining full guard. James is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Marks trying to control the position from guard on top but James is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. James shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. James showed some decent athleticism there. James seems to be working for a kimura but Marks defends the submission attempt. James trying to pass the guard but Marks defending well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Marks wants to get back to full guard. James trying to control the action but Marks is working from the bottom. James stalling away here and it's allowed Marks to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. James throwing strikes from guard but Marks blocks nicely. Marks looking for a guillotine here but James defends easily.
James has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. James trying to control but Marks is working from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. James lands a right hook to the body.
James throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from James. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jesse James. That's going to take a lot out of him. Marks bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. James wants to control but Marks postures up. Marks wants to lay and pray for a moment but James keeps working. James gets back to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Marks is thwarting James's attempts to control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. James wants to get back to full guard. James is trying to control but can't.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. James will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Jesse James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. James tries to clinch up. James keeps the fight on the outside. Marks doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. James shoots in and drives through. Marks sprawls well. Marks darts in and clinches James up against the cage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joey Marks dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
James scores with a hook to the body. Marks takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. James is looking to wear down Marks with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Marks shoots in but no luck this time. Marks is looking to clinch but James is avoiding it.
Marks moves in looking to clinch but James pushes him off. James thuds a left hand into Marks's body. Marks is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Marks looks to land a right hand but James moved out of range. Nice sprawl there from Marks as James shoots in. Both fighters circling a little - Marks finishes the exchange with a kick to the body. Marks connects with the punch. Joey Marks is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Nice takedown defense from Marks. No joy for James on that attempt. James with a poor takedown and Marks counters with a lovely straight right hand! That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jesse James. That's going to take a lot out of him. Marks has managed to clinch.
James is pressed up against the cage. Marks has hold of a leg and is looking to drag James down to the mat. James avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. James avoids a punch combination nicely.
James throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Marks's waist but Marks gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing James off to one side. Marks jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Marks cracks James with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
That's one minute gone in the round. Marks avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
No luck for James with that takedown attempt. Marks tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but James paws at him with a jab and circles away. Marks fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. James sprawls well initially but Marks persists and gets the takedown into half guard. James gets full guard. James manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Marks flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
James is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Marks has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Marks! Marks tries to free his leg and advance position but James is retaining full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. James has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. James has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Marks should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, James has tightened it up now! Marks should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:37 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Jesse James! Jesse James retains his lightweight title!
