Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ervin Gillespie! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Troy Alexander! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, William Peck and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alexander lands with an uppercut that bounces Gillespie off the cage and back into range.
It looks like Ervin Gillespie has been cut. Alexander misses with a combination
and Gillespie counters with a nice double leg into side control. Alexander won't be happy with that. Gillespie looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Alexander is avoiding damage well.
Alexander is looking to regain half guard here but Gillespie keeps moving and retains side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gillespie trying to control the position but Alexander is working away. Gillespie controlling the position from side mount. Alexander is looking to regain half guard here but Gillespie keeps moving and retains side control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gillespie taking a breather here. Gillespie prevents Alexander from escaping the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alexander taking a bit of punishment here - Gillespie scoring with strikes. Gillespie could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Alexander keeps Gillespie under control for a moment. Gillespie working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Alexander wants to get back to his feet. Gillespie cracks Alexander with a big elbow. Alexander tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gillespie wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Gillespie throwing shots but missing, from side control. The strikes coming from Gillespie are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Gillespie stands up. Alexander lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gillespie circles away quickly and effectively.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A punch combination from Alexander misses. Gillespie is looking for a counter combo. Oooooh!!! Alexander has knocked Gillespie down with a huge combo! Alexander steps away and waves a wobbly Gillespie back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
Gillespie is rocked! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Alexander lands with a right and another and another! Gillespie is in big trouble! Alexander lands again and this time it's lights out for Gillespie! A quality knockout there for Alexander.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:15 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Troy Alexander!
