Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Riccardo Rodriguez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 39 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ash Thomas!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodriguez shoots and misses
and Thomas counters with a nice body kick.
Rodriguez darts in trying to clinch
and Thomas counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Rodriguez moves out of range of the leg kick from Thomas.
Rodriguez looks to land a right hand but Thomas moved out of range.
Rodriguez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Thomas manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Rodriguez has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Thomas fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Thomas lunges at Rodriguez with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Rodriguez's hand.

Rodriguez closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Thomas's guard.
Thomas is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Rodriguez shoots in for a takedown but Thomas shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Thomas throws a leg kick which misses Rodriguez's front leg but catches the back leg as Rodriguez tries to avoid it.

Thomas defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Rodriguez.
Rodriguez closes the distance and clinches up with Thomas, looking for a takedown. Rodriguez pushes Thomas against the cage but Thomas circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Good leg kick by Thomas there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Rodriguez uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Thomas.
Rodriguez gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Thomas counters with a head kick that drops Rodriguez to the mat! Rodriguez scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!
Oh Rodriguez is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Rodriguez tries to clinch but Thomas is having none of it.
Rodriguez seems to have got his legs back now.
Thomas tries to score with a low kick but Rodriguez moves his leg out of the way.
Rodriguez half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ash Thomas dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Nice takedown defense from Thomas. No joy for Rodriguez on that attempt.

Rodriguez shoots for a double leg takedown but Thomas sprawls well. He's pushed Rodriguez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Thomas stuffs the takedown.
Thomas steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

Thomas scores with a crisp jab that stopped Rodriguez in his tracks.
Rodriguez tries to clinch but Thomas is having none of it.
Rodriguez shoots in for a takedown but Thomas shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Thomas raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Thomas scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Thomas, as that shot connected.
Thomas has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Thomas connects with a body shot.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Thomas cracks Rodriguez with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Rodriguez looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Thomas finish him?

Thomas stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Thomas wants it to stay on the feet.

Thomas lands a big uppercut and Rodriguez crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Rodriguez looks OK. Thomas waves Rodriguez back to his feet!

and Thomas counters with a huge overhand right that connects right on the temple, sending him crumpling, face first to the floor! This one is all over! What a knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Ash Thomas!
After the fight, Ash Thomas was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
