PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Floyd Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Maclin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Floyd Lewis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Peter Maclin!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Russell Pearce and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maclin avoids the head kick by Lewis.

Lewis fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Maclin, pushing him back against the cage.
Maclin's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Maclin gets control of Lewis's arms and successfully pulls guard. Maclin will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lewis content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Maclin is controlling Lewis's posture.

Lewis trying to control but Maclin is working from the bottom.

Lewis thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Lewis landing with the ground and pound.
Lewis slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Maclin struggling a bit here.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Lewis wants to control but Maclin is keeping him busy.

Lewis working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Lewis trying to control the position but Maclin is working away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Maclin tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Lewis tries to move to mount but Maclin blocks the move with his legs.
Lewis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Maclin keeps working.
Maclin manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Lewis is not content to let Maclin control the position.
Lewis looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Maclin is thwarting Lewis's attempts to control the position.

Maclin looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Maclin looks winded!
Lewis trying to control but Maclin postures up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Maclin slows the pace down in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Floyd Lewis will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Lewis gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Maclin to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Maclin trying to control but Lewis is working from the bottom.

Maclin would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Lewis pulls Maclin in close to prevent any damage.
Lewis is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Maclin has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Lewis tries to close the distance and clinch but Maclin swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Lewis misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Maclin shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Maclin showed some decent athleticism there.
The fighters are battling for position here. Lewis manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Maclin pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Lewis is keeping the position for now.
Maclin passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Maclin goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Lewis rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Maclin's guard! Nice work there by Lewis!
Lewis postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Lewis won't allow Maclin to sweep him here.
Lewis trying to control the position from guard on top but Maclin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Maclin is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Lewis connects with a couple of short punches.
Lewis in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lewis throws a big elbow that misses.
Peter Maclin has got the better of the ground game so far.
Lewis wants to control from the top but Maclin keeps moving.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Maclin misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Lewis wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Lewis misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Lewis is looking to clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Maclin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Maclin scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Maclin with the ground and pound but Lewis regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Maclin is stalling here. Lewis is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Maclin seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Lewis has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Lewis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Maclin keeps working.

Lewis is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Maclin defends it well.
Maclin desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Lewis moves into full mount! Maclin won't be happy about that!
Maclin is squirming around, avoiding Lewis's attempts to control the action.

Lewis stands up from mount. Strange move.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lewis will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Maclin is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
The fighters circle momentarily. Maclin darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Maclin lands a jab to Lewis's midsection.
Lewis throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Maclin throws a head kick that Lewis semi-blocks.
Lewis shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Maclin pinned against the cage. Maclin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Maclin feints the counter takedown.

Lewis tries to sprawl but Maclin drives through with a takedown into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Maclin throwing shots but Lewis is blocking nicely.
Lewis wants to control but Maclin is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Still in half guard, Maclin seems content to control.

Maclin is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Maclin throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Lewis to regain full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Maclin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lewis swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Maclin shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Maclin trying to control from half guard but Lewis is working away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Maclin tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Lewis.

And that's the end of the fight!
Peter Maclin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Maclin has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
