Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Juan Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Nolty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nick Nolty has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Juan Aldo's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Juan Aldo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nick Nolty!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Thiago Cunha and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aldo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Nolty's waist but Nolty gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Aldo off to one side.
Nolty tries a head kick but it misses.
Nolty rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Aldo moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Aldo.
Nolty misses with a wild body shot.
Nolty looks to land a body kick but Aldo moved away.
Nice takedown defense from Nolty. No joy for Aldo on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Juan Aldo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Aldo goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Nolty swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Aldo decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Nolty's guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nolty can do anything to dispel that myth.
Nolty wants to sweep here but Aldo controlling him for the moment.
Aldo passes Nolty's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Aldo is taking a breather. Nolty says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Aldo tries to stand but can't do so whilst Nolty controls his leg.
Nolty works his way to full guard. Good work.
Nolty is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Nolty manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Aldo is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Aldo is working hard here to advance position.
Nolty sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Aldo regains half guard.
Aldo is breathing heavily.
Nolty perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Aldo is trying to control but can't.
Aldo misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Nolty is taking a breather. Aldo says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Despite being in the dominant position, Nick Nolty just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nolty throws a left and a right that both miss

and Aldo counters with a nice double leg into side control. Nolty won't be happy with that.

Nolty sneaks back into half guard.
Aldo wants to stand but Nolty has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Juan Aldo dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Aldo tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Nolty paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Juan Aldo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Aldo misses with a low kick.
Nolty throws a head kick that misses
and Aldo counters with a one-two to the body.
Aldo blocks a head kick by Nolty.
We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Nolty in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.

Aldo drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Nolty is looking to reverse the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Aldo throws a nice outside leg kick.
Aldo slips a jab from Nolty.

and Aldo counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Aldo.
Aldo drops down looking for an ankle pick but Nolty pulls his leg out and moves away.

Aldo throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Nolty's head.
Nolty throws a sloppy head kick
and Aldo counters with a straight right hand.
Aldo takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Nolty misses with a head kick.

Nolty looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Nolty stuffs the takedown.
Aldo is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Nolty lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Aldo fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Juan Aldo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nolty throws a right and a left that both miss.
No joy there for Nolty, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Aldo will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Aldo uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Nolty.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Nolty looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Aldo shoots for a double leg takedown but Nolty sprawls well. He's pushed Aldo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
The fighters circling - Nolty throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

so Aldo counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Nolty is controlling Aldo's posture.
Nolty wants to stand up but Aldo is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Aldo has a takedown stuffed.
Aldo lands a jab-cross combination.
Left hook, right uppercut from Nolty.
No joy there for Nolty, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Nolty circles away from the clinch attempt.
Aldo lands a two punch combo.
Aldo showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Nolty.

and Aldo counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Aldo thows a huge punch but Nolty dodges it nicely.
Nolty moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Aldo is looking to stand up but Nolty won't let him.

Nolty trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Nolty looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Juan Aldo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Nolty manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Aldo manages to get himself to full guard.
Aldo tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Aldo will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Nolty seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Nolty sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Aldo's guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Aldo trying to hold on to Nolty's head to control him but Nolty postures up.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Aldo here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Nolty looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Nolty working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Aldo wants to get back to full guard.
Nolty looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Nolty looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Aldo not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Aldo thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Aldo keeping full guard, as Nolty tries to pass.
Aldo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Nolty with a flurry of punches that miss.
Nick Nolty has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Juan Aldo is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Nolty content to stall in guard here.

I would just about give that final round to Nick Nolty.
Well Aldo has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
