Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Henry Honeycutt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kali Parlsh! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Gregory Folan and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight moves into the clinch position. Honeycutt has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Parlsh clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! Parlsh is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Parlsh is in bad spot here.
Honeycutt working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet. Parlsh is really stuck here.
Honeycutt not allowing Parlsh to control his hands. Honeycutt doesn't have the hooks in and Parlsh manages to turn into his guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Honeycutt working a defensive guard here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Parlsh looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Parlsh advances to half guard. Honeycutt is trying to maintain the position but Parlsh is very close to passing his half guard. Parlsh throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Honeycutt to regain full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Parlsh scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Parlsh is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Parlsh lands a couple of decent looking shots. Honeycutt is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Parlsh really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Honeycutt. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Parlsh passes into half guard. Honeycutt trying to control from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Honeycutt is defending against the submission attempts here by Parlsh.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Parlsh seems to be working for a kimura but Honeycutt defends the submission attempt. Parlsh performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Parlsh is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Honeycutt sees it coming and defends easily.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Honeycutt drives through with a takedown into guard. Parlsh wants to stand up but Honeycutt is controlling him. Honeycutt looking to sit in guard and control but Parlsh gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Honeycutt looking to hit a scissor sweep but Parlsh is one step ahead there. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Parlsh stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Honeycutt swivels though and keeps the full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Henry Honeycutt will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Parlsh throws a hook to the side of Honeycutt's head but Honeycutt sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Parlsh closes the distance and pushes Honeycutt back into the cage. Honeycutt turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Parlsh wants to get back to his feet but Honeycutt is dominant here and he's now got Parlsh's back! Honeycutt sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Parlsh taps out!
