Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Filip Hrgovic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Wates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Filip Hrgovic had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 206.8lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Filip Hrgovic has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Filip Hrgovic! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, George Wates! The judges for this bout are James Glass, Steven Brown and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wates leaves Hrgovic with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Wates throws a sloppy head kick and Hrgovic moves out of range easily. Wates gets a double leg takedown into Hrgovic's guard. Wates trying to control but Hrgovic is working from the bottom. Wates postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hrgovic is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Wates, into his guard. Wates is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wates is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hrgovic defends well. Hrgovic stopping the sweep attempt from Wates. Hrgovic is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Hrgovic's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Hrgovic throws a big elbow that misses. Hrgovic tries to free his leg and advance position but Wates is retaining full guard. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Hrgovic trying to control but Wates is working from the bottom.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Hrgovic avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Hrgovic changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wates tries to avoid it but Hrgovic manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wates to the ground. Wates escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Hrgovic avoids a punch combination nicely.
Hrgovic thinks about countering with a body kick. Wates misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hrgovic darts in looking for a takedown but Wates gets double underhooks and turns Hrgovic into the cage. Despite the aggression on Wates's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Filip Hrgovic. That's going to take a lot out of him. Wates closes the distance and pushes Hrgovic back into the cage. Wates is trying to break the clinch but Hrgovic has him pressed against the cage. Wates tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Hrgovic's elbow. Wates prevents the takedown attempt.

Wates is trying to maintain a safe position but Hrgovic gets an underhook and turns Wates into the cage. Hrgovic blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Wates stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Wates breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Wates shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Wates shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hrgovic pinned against the cage. Hrgovic gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hrgovic throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Wates tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Hrgovic is in Wates's guard. Hrgovic trying to control the position from guard on top but Wates is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Wates wants to improve his position but instead Hrgovic has moved into half guard.

George Wates dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Hrgovic shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Hrgovic has Wates up against the cage in a clinch.

Wates trying to stall but Hrgovic improves his position.
Hrgovic has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Wates regains guard immediately. Hrgovic stands up and waves to Wates to follow him. Wates throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hrgovic. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wates connects with an inside leg kick. Wates doesn't manage to clinch there - Hrgovic circles away.
Hrgovic darts in looking for a takedown but Wates gets double underhooks and turns Hrgovic into the cage. George Wates seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hrgovic displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Wates.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wates falls off balance throwing a combination
and Hrgovic counters with a single leg into guard. Wates didn't expect that. Wates is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Hrgovic tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. Wates trying to pass the guard but Hrgovic defending well. Hrgovic trying to control from the bottom.
Filip Hrgovic overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Hrgovic pushes Wates off looking to stand but Wates dives back in and keeps control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hrgovic looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Hrgovic controlling the leg, holding on to half guard. Wates seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hrgovic does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Hrgovic is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hrgovic manages to get to full guard.
Hrgovic manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Wates manages to get himself to full guard.
Hrgovic stops Wates from standing up. Hrgovic advances position into side control! Wates is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Hrgovic asserts his dominance and retains side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Wates's face as Hrgovic controls the position. Hrgovic decides to stand back up. Wates throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Wates dives in for a single leg takedown but Hrgovic sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Hrgovic misses with an attempted mid kick.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Hrgovic dives in and grabs Wates's left leg, looking for a takedown. Wates pushes down on Hrgovic's head and hops out. Wates feints the counter takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Filip Hrgovic. That's going to take a lot out of him. Horrible takedown attempt by Wates or perhaps it was just good defense by Hrgovic, which made it look bad. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hrgovic feints and as Wates raises his hands in defense, Hrgovic changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Wates is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Hrgovic advances position into side control! Wates felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. The ground and pound from Hrgovic seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wates is pushing Hrgovic's head away, looking to escape. Hrgovic manages to hold on to the position though. Wates is wriggling around trying to escape but Hrgovic has hooked up a rear naked choke! Is it over??? Is it... you're damn right it is! Wates taps out and Hrgovic picks up the big win! Great work there by Hrgovic!
