Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jimmie Johns! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dani Alexander! The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Santiago Holmes and Dirk Anderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A momentary lapse in concentration from Alexander enables Johns to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Alexander manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Alexander wants to sweep but no luck. Alexander wants to stand up but Johns is controlling him. Johns working some strikes from top position. Johns postures up in Alexander's guard and throws a big left but Alexander blocks it. Johns working some strikes from top position. Johns advances position into side control! Johns is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Alexander is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Alexander is trying to improve his position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Johns landing a few strikes. Johns wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Alexander, who protects the arm well. Alexander is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Alexander is looking to reverse the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alexander is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Johns in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Johns working away. Johns connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Alexander some visible discomfort.
Johns landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Alexander parries the strikes from Johns easily there. Johns is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Alexander to escape.
Alexander taking a bit of punishment here - Johns scoring with strikes. Alexander manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Johns has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Alexander blocking the ground and pound attempt from Johns. Johns slows the pace down in half guard. Alexander is looking for a sweep. Johns is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Johns perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Johns not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Johns scoring with strikes to the body and head. Johns is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Johns is looking for a kimura here.
Alexander is trying to stand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Johns passes the guard and advances to mount! Johns landing punches.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johns controlling the pace for now. Johns cracks Alexander with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Alexander is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Johns goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Alexander turns into him and now he's in Johns's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Johns escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Alexander gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Johns is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Alexander has his hands clasped together but Johns extends and breaks Alexander's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Johns.
