Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Denz Curry! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
29 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fedor Belfort! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Gwen Towbar and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Belfort avoids a punch combination nicely.
Belfort moves to clinch but Curry breaks away and Curry counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Belfort swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Belfort looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. A jab lands there for Belfort. Belfort moves into range and connects with a jab. The fighters circle momentarily. Curry darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Denz Curry seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Belfort avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Curry plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Curry scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Belfort throws a jab when Curry was well out of range. Belfort looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Curry seems keen to control Belfort's posture. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Belfort throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Curry keeping moving, preventing Belfort from controlling successfully. Belfort makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Curry working a defensive guard here.
Curry seems keen to control Belfort's posture. Belfort trying to control the position from guard on top but Curry is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Belfort's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Curry throws a looping overhand right but Belfort ducks down to avoid it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Curry throws a nice head kick!
Curry drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Good standup being displayed there by Curry as he connects with a hook. Curry throws a sloppy body shot
letting Belfort counter with a right hand. Belfort blocks a head kick by Curry.
Belfort scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Belfort is chipping away with strikes.
Curry is rocked! Curry's coaches at Void Training Facility have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position. Belfort scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Curry is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Belfort can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Fedor Belfort!
