PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wilmer Rivers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Atanasio Girardot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Girardot has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Atanasio Girardot looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wilmer Rivers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Atanasio Girardot!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Matheus Silva and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rivers fails to land the takedown.
Girardot leaves Rivers with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Rivers moves into the clinch.
Rivers wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Girardot has him pressed against the cage.
Rivers wants to break free but Girardot has control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Girardot wants to stand but Rivers has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Rivers pulls Girardot in close to his closed guard and prevents Girardot from doing any damage or advancing position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Rivers gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Rivers wants to take the fight to the mat but Girardot manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Rivers shoots in looking for a takedown but Girardot manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rivers's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Rivers throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Girardot was covering up waiting for the punch and Rivers finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Girardot really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rivers. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Rivers postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Girardot is working an open guard so Rivers takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Rivers is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Girardot can do to turn this around?

Rivers shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Girardot is trying to defend but Rivers finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Atanasio Girardot has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rivers thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Wilmer Rivers showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rivers, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
