Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gail Hammond! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Deair Shaw! The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Dmitry Maklakov and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hammond shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Shaw is trying to defend but Hammond finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shaw is looking to escape. Shaw blocking the ground and pound attempt from Hammond. Hammond perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Shaw wants to stand back up but Hammond manages to pass into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hammond controls the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shaw can't do much from the bottom here. Shaw is being controlled here. Hammond in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Hammond controlling the position. Shaw looking for a sweep but Hammond has passed into full mount! Oh no!
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Shaw tries to get back to half guard but can't. Hammond controlling from mount. Hammond has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hammond seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Shaw for as long as he can get away with. Hammond's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. This is a sustained period of stalling by Hammond. Hammond breaks from Shaw's wrist control and lands an elbow. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Shaw is trying desperately to improve position. Shaw's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gail Hammond dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Hammond fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Shaw to the ground. Hammond is now in Shaw's guard. Hammond showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Shaw wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Hammond is now in half guard. Hammond scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Hammond is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Shaw can do to turn this around? We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hammond sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Shaw defending well though. Shaw has a hand on Hammond's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Hammond takes advantage of the position though and mounts him! Hammond connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Hammond continues to hold on tight.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hammond continues to stall. Gail Hammond overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Shaw is working to get back to half guard.
Hammond landing strikes from the mount. Hammond avoids the attempt from Shaw to control. Shaw is breathing heavily. Hammond controlling the pace for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. The referee warns Shaw that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Hammond controlling from mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gail Hammond dominated that second round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
Hammond gets a double leg takedown into Shaw's guard. Hammond chips away with some ground and pound. Shaw can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Hammond controls the pace. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shaw looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hammond not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Shaw will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Shaw takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Hammond fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Shaw to the ground. Hammond is now in Shaw's guard. Deair Shaw has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hammond sitting in guard here, content to control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. More hug and hope from Hammond.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Shaw scores with a three punch combo!
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Shaw gets caught napping as Hammond dives in and scores a takedown. Shaw manages to retain guard. Shaw throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Hammond escapes and throws Shaw's legs to the side, diving into side control! Hammond staying calm. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Further stalling from Hammond.
And that's the end of the fight! Gail Hammond showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hammond, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
