The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Da Silva blocks a low kick nicely.
Da Silva shoots in for a takedown but Whittaker shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Whittaker swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Whittaker fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
It looks like Jose Da Silva has been cut.
Da Silva shoots in but no luck this time.
Whittaker feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Whittaker misses with a low kick.
A jab from Whittaker misses.
Whittaker misses with a looping right.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Da Silva moves away from the strike by Whittaker.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Da Silva is defended easily by Whittaker.
Whittaker tried to counter with a leg kick but Da Silva avoided it.
Dick Whittaker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jose Da Silva.

Whittaker throws a leg kick but Da Silva moved away.

Da Silva tries for a takedown but Whittaker sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Nice uppercut lands for Whittaker. That snapped Da Silva's head back.
Donk. Whittaker catches Da Silva right on the button with a cross.
That kick from Whittaker tenderised Da Silva's leg. Da Silva is trying to keep his angry face on.
Da Silva shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Whittaker as he jumps to the side.
Whittaker appears to be looking for a big counter.
Da Silva has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Da Silva there as he acknowledges the shot.
Sloppy strikes from Whittaker. Those never looked like landing.

Da Silva slips a jab and a cross from Whittaker.
Whittaker misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Da Silva.
Da Silva feints the counter takedown.

Jose Da Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Da Silva keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Whittaker fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Da Silva manages to avoid it.
Da Silva tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Whittaker keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Whittaker lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Da Silva has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Da Silva and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
And Da Silva tries to counter it with a takedown but Whittaker pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Whittaker throws a hook to the side of Da Silva's head but Da Silva sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Whittaker tried to score with a low kick but Da Silva checks it.

Whittaker jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Whittaker tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Da Silva was well out of range. Poor timing from Whittaker.
Da Silva avoids the body shot from Whittaker.
Whittaker swings away with a leg kick that misses.
And Da Silva tries to counter it with a takedown but Whittaker pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Whittaker throws a body punch but Da Silva moves out of range.
A clash of legs there as Da Silva blocks the low kick.
Whittaker looks to score with a jab to the body but Da Silva is just out of range.
Whittaker stuffs the takedown attempt from Da Silva. Da Silva gets slowly back to his feet.
Da Silva misses with a takedown
and Da Silva takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
Da Silva checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Da Silva displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Whittaker throws out the jab.
Whittaker is pawing at Da Silva, trying to feel the distance before throwing out a cross that crashes into Da Silva's nose. Da Silva is badly hurt! Whittaker pounces, throwing wild strikes as both fighters end up on the ground! Da Silva tries desperately to hold on but Whittaker is relentless in his assault! As Da Silva receives an ever increasing number of unanswered strikes the referee pulls Whittaker away and this one is in the books!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dick Whittaker!
