Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
23 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Mertsi Peltola! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Edward McLauglin! The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Arvi Lind and Anni Minnemäki.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McLauglin connects with a good right hand that stumbles Peltola. Peltola circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
It looks like Mertsi Peltola has been cut. McLauglin buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
McLauglin bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Peltola loads up on a big right hand but McLauglin slips the punch. McLauglin throws a head kick that Peltola semi-blocks.
McLauglin tried to score with a low kick but Peltola checks it. McLauglin lands a two punch combo.
Peltola has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. The fighters circling - Peltola throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Peltola is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by McLauglin. McLauglin steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Peltola. Nice jab there from McLauglin. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Peltola moves out of range as McLauglin throws a body kick.
Peltola throws an overhand right that lands on McLauglin's shoulder, as McLauglin tries to avoid the shot. McLauglin fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Peltola manages to avoid it. McLauglin scores with a kick to the body.
Peltola avoids the head kick by McLauglin.
Peltola uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from McLauglin.
That's one minute gone in the round. A jab from Peltola does it's job there. McLauglin closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. McLauglin misses with a body punch.
Peltola lands with a left to the head. We've been informed that McLauglin has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. McLauglin landing knees to the body.
Peltola has a couple of punches blocked by McLauglin.
McLauglin misses with a short punch on the inside. Peltola tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. McLauglin just stands there and leans against the cage. Peltola throws a blind hook that connects with the side of McLauglins head. Peltola is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. McLauglin scores with a hook to the body. McLauglin utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body. Peltola is breathing heavily. The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. Knees to the body from McLauglin.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McLauglin drops Peltola with a big knee straight up the middle! Peltola is covering up against the cage but manages to escape and gets back to his feet!
Peltola is rocked! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! McLauglin finds Peltola's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! Peltola flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. McLauglin lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure Peltola will be OK.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:10 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Edward McLauglin! Edward McLauglin seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
