Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jon Wood! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Masahiko Kimura! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Yves DeLean and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wood misses with a double jab.
No joy there for Wood, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Kimura fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Wood, pushing him back against the cage. Kimura has a couple of punches blocked by Wood.
Wood is working for takedown but Kimura is calmly controlling the position for now. A short body shot lands from Kimura as the two fighters clinch.
Kimura prevents a takedown attempt there.
A hook to the body from Kimura.
Kimura swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Kimura scores with a shot to the side of Wood's head. Wood is trying to break free. Kimura misses with a punch on the inside.
Wood lands a nice shot to the body. Kimura stalls. Still in the clinch, Kimura scores with a nice short uppercut. Wood wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kimura has him pressed against the cage. Kimura lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Kimura keeps control of Wood as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Wood escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Jon Wood seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Wood throws a series of punches but Kimura moves out of range. Kimura staying out of range there. Wood throws a right and a left that Kimura avoids nicely. Wood throws a sloppy head kick and Kimura moves out of range easily. Wood misses with a series of wild punches.
Kimura lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
It looks like Jon Wood has been cut. Wood throws a right and a left that Kimura avoids nicely. Wood is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wood rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kimura moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Wood throws a hook but Kimura blocks it. Kimura slips a jab and a cross from Wood.
Kimura drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kimura thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Kimura has hold of Wood's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Wood seems comfortable defending it but Kimura has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Wood is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Wood is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Kimura couldn't care less - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Masahiko Kimura!
