Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Nostro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chad Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mendes has chosen Steve McQueen as his entrance music. Nathan Nostro has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 9 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nathan Nostro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 44 - 27 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chad Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Cecil Peabody and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Mendes, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Mendes misses with a double jab

so Nostro counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
We've been hearing that Nostro has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Nostro throws a big elbow that misses.
Nostro missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Nostro wants to control from the top but Mendes keeps moving.
Mendes is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Nostro is controlling him.

Nostro thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nostro won't allow Mendes to get back to his feet.

Nostro stays in close to Mendes's body and controls the position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Nostro is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Nostro keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Nostro shoots in and drives through. Mendes sprawls well.
Nostro is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
The fighters circle momentarily. Mendes darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Nostro dives in and scores a takedown into Mendes's guard.

Nostro tries to free his leg and advance position but Mendes is retaining full guard.
Nostro throws a big right hand that misses.
Mendes is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Mendes can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Nostro controls the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Nostro accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Nostro passes Mendes's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Nostro thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Nostro trying to mount his opponent but Mendes defends it.

Nostro working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Nostro is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Mendes is refusing to be controlled, as Nostro sits in half guard.
Nostro has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Nostro looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Nostro not landing any meaningful shots this time.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mendes wants to get back to his feet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Mendes ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Nostro moves away.
Nostro attempts a counter takedown but Mendes avoids it well and moves away.
Mendes moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Nostro scores with a kick to the midsection.

Nostro shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Mendes is trying to defend but Nostro finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Nostro is looking to take a break and control but Mendes is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Mendes throws an overhand right that lands on Nostro's shoulder, as Nostro tries to avoid the shot.
Nostro looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mendes is fending him off so far but Nostro persists. Nope, Mendes circles away and we're back to standing.
Mendes misses the shot to the body.
Mendes misses with a looping right.
Mendes will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Mendes throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Nostro stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Mendes throws a hook but Nostro blocks it.
Nostro takes one on the chin but seems OK.
A looping hook to the body misses from Mendes. Nostro does a little dance to reset his feet.
Mendes misses with a series of wild punches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nostro misses with an uppercut. Mendes saw that one coming.

Mendes throws a lazy right hand but Nostro sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Mendes pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Mendes misses the shot to the body.
Mendes scores with a hook to the body. Nostro takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Nostro uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Mendes.
A shot to the liver by Nostro. Beautiful body shot.
Mendes slips under a jab.
Mendes works Nostro's body with a nice hook.
A looping hook to the body misses from Nostro. Mendes does a little dance to reset his feet.
Mendes stuns Nostro with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
A slow jab from Mendes misses its intended target.
Mendes scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Chad Mendes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nostro looks for a takedown but Mendes sprawls well.
Mendes chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Nostro can pounce on him.

Mendes throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Nostro stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Chad Mendes seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Nostro lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Nostro.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Mendes is still on wobbly legs! Can Nostro finish him?
Horrible takedown attempt by Nostro or perhaps it was just good defense by Mendes, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nathan Nostro. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mendes throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Mendes gets clipped by a big right hand and goes down spinning to the canvas! Nostro gets the back mount and begins to drop bombs on his rocked foe! Mendes is too out of it to defend against the strikes and the referee jumps in to save him from the beatdown!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Nathan Nostro!
Nathan Nostro decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
