PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lenard Baldwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lenard Baldwin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matt Ryan!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, David Schapiro and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baldwin misses with a low kick.
Baldwin tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Ryan has closed the distance and engaged Baldwin in a clinch.

Baldwin is fighting off a takedown attempt but Ryan is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Baldwin to the mat. Baldwin regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Baldwin is trying to control the position but Ryan postures up.

Baldwin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Baldwin manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ryan manages to get himself to full guard.

Baldwin closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Ryan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Baldwin is working away from the top position though.
Ryan tries to roll over but Baldwin keeps him under control.
Ryan on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Ryan wants to control but Baldwin is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Baldwin seems to be working for a kimura but Ryan defends the submission attempt.

Baldwin really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Ryan fails to land with a series of punches.

Baldwin closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Ryan's guard.

Ryan shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Baldwin's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ryan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Ryan ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Ryan no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Baldwin has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ryan is proving hard to escape from.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Baldwin's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Ryan wants to control the position but Baldwin says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Ryan flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Baldwin scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Baldwin is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Ryan sees it coming and defends easily.

Ryan has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Baldwin is on him like a limpet, forcing Ryan back against the cage.

Ryan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Baldwin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Ryan can't do much from the bottom here.
Baldwin creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Baldwin is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ryan is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Baldwin will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Baldwin tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Baldwin has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Ryan tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Baldwin wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Baldwin thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

That was a close second round but I would say that Lenard Baldwin will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ryan enables Baldwin to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ryan manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Baldwin postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Ryan has momentary wrist control but Baldwin slips an elbow through the middle.

Ryan controls Baldwin momentarily but Baldwin frees himself.
Baldwin lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Lenard Baldwin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Ryan is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Baldwin has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ryan is proving hard to escape from.
Baldwin stands up over Ryan, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Ryan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Baldwin decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Ryan, up you get!
Matt Ryan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Lenard Baldwin is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
