Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between AJ Clark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damian Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Clark comes to the ring accompanied by Headstrong. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, AJ Clark! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Damian Maia! The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Jonathan Paton and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Clark tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Clark keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Maia shoots in for a double leg but Clark sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Maia shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. AJ Clark has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Damian Maia. Maia shoots in looking for a takedown. Clark tries to sprawl out of it but Maia keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Clark manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Clark lands a nice leg kick that just misses Maia's sensitive parts. Clark scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Maia slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Maia looking for a guillotine here but Clark defends easily.

Clark has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Maia escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Clark gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Maia working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Clark doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Clark manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Maia has a closed guard, preventing Clark from standing up. Clark stands and throws Maia's legs to the side, diving into side control. Maia is trying to improve his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Maia regains half guard. Clark knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Maia on the ground. Clark wants to control but Maia is keeping him busy. Maia looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Clark seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Maia does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Maia looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Clark trying to control from half guard but Maia is working away. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Maia makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Maia.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Maia had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Clark is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Maia Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Clark's back instead. Clark trying to control the hands but Maia won't let him. Clark has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke. Maia is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Clark is defending well though. Maia let's go of the attempt for now. Clark looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Damian Maia dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Maia with a lazy takedown attempt and Clark counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Maia thinking. Maia with a poor takedown and Clark counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Clark. Maia jumps guard but Clark stands there with Maia around his waist. Maia gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
AJ Clark has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Damian Maia. Clark pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Maia takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Maia is looking for a sweep. Clark is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Maia looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Maia looking for submissions off his back. Maia is trying to get back to full guard. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Clark tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Maia. Clark trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Clark misses with a wild combination.
Clark fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Maia shoots and misses and Clark connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Maia with a poor takedown and Clark counters with a nice body kick. Clark throws a series of punches but Maia moves out of range.

AJ Clark dominated that second round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!
Maia shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Clark counters with a left and a right that stings Maia. Maia doesn't succeed with the takedown and Clark counters with a big head kick but Maia shrugs it off. Clark throws a head kick but Maia moves out of range.

Maia isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Clark stacks Maia on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Clark! Maia is looking for a sweep.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Maia is being controlled here. Maia tries to buck Clark off but Clark is having none of it. Maia is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Clark is looking to take a break and control but Maia is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Maia is looking to regain half guard here but Clark keeps moving and retains side control.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Jab, jab by Clark - just one landing. Clark shoots and misses and Maia decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Clark's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Maia postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Clark is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Maia, into his guard. Clark avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Clark trying to control the position from guard on top but Maia is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Maia escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Clark gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Maia is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Clark landing with the ground and pound. Maia is looking for a triangle but Clark pushes his legs off easily.
Maia looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Clark puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to AJ Clark. I think Clark has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
