Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Conor Duffy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shi Thead (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Conor Duffy could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Shi Thead's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Conor Duffy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Shi Thead!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Peter Branson and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duffy throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Thead is trying to counter with his kicks.
Thead lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Duffy tries for a takedown but Thead circles away easily
and Thead counters with a slapping leg kick.
Duffy gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Duffy clinches up with Thead and pushes him back against the cage.

Duffy pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Duffy misses with the combination.
Thead punishes Duffy's body with a nice straight punch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Duffy shoots in and drives through. Thead sprawls well.
Shi Thead seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Thead lands with a thumping leg kick.
A nice inside leg kick there by Thead. That's going to slow Duffy down.
Thead throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Duffy moves in looking to clinch but Thead pushes him off.
Thead connects with a leg kick. Duffy looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Thead stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Thead tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Thead looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Duffy is looking to clinch.
Duffy tries to score a power double leg takedown but Thead sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Duffy somewhat.
Thead was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Conor Duffy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Thead feints and then cracks Duffy's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Duffy down.
Thead lets loose with a powerful body kick. Duffy will feel that in the morning.
Duffy moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Duffy is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Thead's half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Thead manages to get to full guard.
Duffy really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Duffy got a little sloppy there for a moment and Thead has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Duffy has managed to get both his arms back between Thead's legs - danger averted.
Duffy trying to control but Thead is working from the bottom.
Thead is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Thead's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Duffy stopping the sweep attempt from Thead.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Duffy looking to pass the guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Thead looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Duffy being controlled here momentarily.

Thead throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Thead has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Duffy can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Duffy wants to control from the top but Thead keeps moving.

Thead working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Duffy doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Duffy manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Thead pulls Duffy in close to prevent any damage.
Duffy stopping the sweep attempt from Thead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shi Thead dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Duffy misses the jab.
Thead was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Conor Duffy is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Duffy shoots in but Thead avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Thead throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Duffy shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Thead sprawls well. Thead wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Duffy gets slowly back to his feet.
Thead throws a leg kick that is checked

so Duffy counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Duffy is sitting in close to Thead's body. Thead has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Duffy is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Duffy is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Thead.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Shi Thead!
An out of breath Shi Thead thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
