Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Anderson Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Smith!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith misses with a head kick.
Gracie throws a jab but it's blocked by Smith.
As Gracie backs off Smith throws a huge counter combo but Gracie manages to avoid it all.
Smith moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Gracie cracks a nice hook into Smith's ribs.
Nice defenses there by Gracie.
Gracie scores with a nice head shot.
Smith lands a two punch combo.

Gracie gets a clinch.
Smith wants to break free but Gracie has control.
Gracie doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Gracie misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Gracie can't find room to land a body shot as Smith controls the action.

Smith pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A jab from Gracie misses.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Smith looks to land a combination but Gracie avoids it well.
We've been informed that Smith has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Smith throws a right and a left that both miss.
A little feinted left hand from Gracie on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Gracie is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Smith.

Gracie fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Smith manages to avoid it.
Gracie throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Smith on the side of the head.

John Smith is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gracie tries to close the distance and clinch but Smith swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Gracie throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Smith swings for the body but Gracie moves out of range.
Anderson Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Smith swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gracie is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Smith is defending well for now.

Smith gets tackled into the cage by Gracie. Gracie maintains the clinch.
Gracie gets through Smith's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Smith blocks a body shot from Gracie.
Gracie lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Gracie lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Gracie swings wildly with an uppercut but Smith uses good head movement to avoid it.

Gracie is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Heart Cave, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Smith seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Smith gets tackled into the cage by Gracie. Gracie maintains the clinch.

Smith tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Gracie shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Smith's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smith is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anderson Gracie dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Gracie uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
John Smith seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Gracie is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Smith takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Smith looks to land a combination but Gracie avoids it well.

Gracie moves into the clinch.
Gracie effectively controlling the action here.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie tries a body shot but Smith blocks it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gracie pulls Smith in close to his closed guard and prevents Smith from doing any damage or advancing position.
Gracie lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Smith wants to get up but he can't break Gracie's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gracie is on top in guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Smith misses with an uppercut.
Smith ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Smith connects with a single shot there.
Gracie shoots for a takedown but Smith saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Smith takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Smith takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Gracie dodges the punch combination from Smith.
Gracie was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Smith lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Gracie is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Smith throws a counter combo.
Smith circles away from the clinch attempt.
Smith ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gracie moves away.
Gracie thuds his right hand into Smith's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Gracie, as that shot connected.

Smith avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Smith is looking for the big counter here.
Gracie misses with a straight left.
Smith throws a right and a left that both miss.
Smith throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Smith misses with a few strikes there.

Smith throws a leg kick but Gracie moved away.

Smith lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Smith takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Gracie clinches.
Smith is pressed up against the cage. Gracie has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Smith down to the mat. Smith avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Gracie stuns Smith with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Smith ducks under a wild hook from Gracie.

Gracie uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Smith has time to react.
Smith takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
John Smith is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Smith misses with a wild body shot.
Gracie bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Smith's head.
Smith takes one to the side of the head.

Smith gets tackled into the cage by Gracie. Gracie maintains the clinch.
Gracie lands a shoulder strike.
Smith has had enough of the clinch but Gracie keeps him there for the moment.
Smith tries to circle away but Gracie has him pinned against the cage.

Gracie works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Smith is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Gracie dives into side control.

Gracie is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Smith is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Gracie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smith keeps working.
Anderson Gracie is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Gracie seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Smith for as long as he can get away with.
Gracie continues to stall.
John Smith has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Smith is squirming around, avoiding Gracie's attempts to control the action.

Anderson Gracie showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Gracie has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
