The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Illya Tyunina and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Franco sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mendez somewhat.
Franco is looking to counter with head kicks.
Mendez misses with a takedown
and Franco counters by moving into the clinch.
Franco pulls Mendez into guard.
Franco tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Franco preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Franco wants to sweep here but Mendez controlling him for the moment.

Franco is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Mendez can't fight it off and eventually Franco manages to take the fight to the floor. Mendez looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Franco has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Mendez clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Franco knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mendez on the ground.

Mendez is having to fend off submission attempts from Franco, who is looking to sink in the choke. Franco doesn't have the hooks in though and Mendez manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Mendez shoots in for a takedown but Franco shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Franco has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Mendez regains guard immediately.
Mendez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Franco doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Franco manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Mendez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Franco can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Mendez throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Franco escapes and throws Mendez's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Mendez is trying to control Franco's posture but Franco avoids it.
Franco decides to stand up, so the ref orders Mendez to his feet.
Mendez tries for a takedown but Franco sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Emory Franco is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Mendez has his feet on Franco's thighs here. He's pushed Franco off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Franco screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
