Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Newton Lucas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Raul Lorenzo! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Phil Schofield and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lucas gets caught flat footed, as Lorenzo shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Lucas pulls Lorenzo in to control the position. Lorenzo wants to control from the top but Lucas keeps moving. Lucas has his hands on Lorenzo's head, controlling the position. Lucas is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Lorenzo is aware though and is defending well. Lorenzo throwing strikes from guard but Lucas blocks nicely. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lucas is on top in guard.
Lorenzo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Lorenzo had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Lucas defends it easily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lucas stops Lorenzo from standing up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lorenzo has his foot on Lucas's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Lucas works his way back into a safe position though. Lorenzo looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Lucas got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lorenzo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lucas has managed to get both his arms back between Lorenzo's legs - danger averted. Lorenzo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Lucas gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Lorenzo scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lucas stuck in half guard on the bottom here. Lucas struggling a bit here. Lorenzo is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Lucas looks calm but he's in trouble here. Lorenzo gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Lucas is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Lorenzo lets go of the hold and Lucas can pop his arm back in it's socket.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Raul Lorenzo!
