PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kanwar Singh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Diego Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Diego Mendes was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Diego Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Peter Branson and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Singh misses with a looping right.

It looks like Diego Mendes has been cut.
Mendes lands a jab to the nose.
Singh keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Mendes misses with an uppercut. Singh saw that one coming.
Mendes keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Mendes shoots in and drives through. Singh sprawls well.
Singh jabs Mendes to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Mendes pushes Singh away with a front kick.
Singh throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Singh defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mendes.

Singh cracks Mendes with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Mendes throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Mendes takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Singh throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Mendes looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Mendes throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Mendes doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Singh throws a nice looking combination but Mendes bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Mendes tries to counter by closing the distance.
Mendes throws a right and a left that both miss.
Mendes throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Singh misses with a jab, cross combination.
Singh cracks Mendes with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Mendes closes the distance and pushes Singh back into the cage.

Singh lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Mendes misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Singh.
Mendes is working for takedown but Singh is calmly controlling the position for now.
Kanwar Singh has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Diego Mendes.

Singh is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Mendes misses with a body punch.
Singh doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Mendes is working for takedown but Singh is calmly controlling the position for now.

Mendes is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Singh pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Mendes misses with an elbow over the top.
Mendes fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Mendes's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Singh manages to break the clinch.
Singh scores with a jab to the jaw.
Mendes moves forwards but Singh connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Mendes ducks under a wild hook from Singh.
Mendes is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Singh stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Mendes shoots in for a takedown but Singh shows good takedown defense.
Mendes takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Singh throws a series of strikes that have Mendes backpedaling.
Mendes uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Singh.
Singh scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.


Mendes is rocked!


That has opened up Diego Mendes's cut even more.
Singh is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
A jab from Singh misses.
Singh lands with a nice body punch.
Singh throws a good cross that connects.
Singh uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Mendes is still on wobbly legs! Can Singh finish him?
Singh scores with a shot to the body.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Singh jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Singh thuds his right hand into Mendes's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Singh really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Singh misses the shot to the body.
Mendes seems to have recovered his senses.

Singh lands a big uppercut and Mendes crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Mendes looks OK. Singh waves Mendes back to his feet!
Singh punishes Mendes's body with a nice straight punch.
Singh drops Mendes with a huge uppercut! Mendes drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes. Singh is raining down punches and the ref stops the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kanwar Singh!
A very excited looking Kanwar Singh made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
