PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tantalus Flay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Jamison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Flay comes into the arena with Outerspace- Revolution blaring out of the sound system. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Tantalus Flay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Jamison!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Steven Brown and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Flay lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Jamison circles away quickly and effectively.
Flay misses with a straight left.
Jamison with the counter takedown but Flay avoids it easily.
We've been informed that Jamison has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Flay avoids the body shot from Jamison.
Flay misses with a lunging right hand
and Jamison counters with a leg kick.
Flay tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jamison was well out of range. Poor timing from Flay.
Flay throws a looping overhand right but Jamison ducks down to avoid it.
Jamison slips a jab from Flay.
Jamison throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Jamison avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Jamison gets the takedown into side control.
The ground and pound from Jamison seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jamison is looking to take a break and control but Flay is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Flay wants to control but Jamison postures up.
Flay tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Jamison wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Flay parries the strikes from Jamison easily there. Jamison is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Flay to escape.

Flay is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Jamison's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Jamison wants to take a breather but Flay is having none of it.
Flay trying to control but Jamison postures up.
Flay is looking to improve his position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Flay is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Flay walks into a straight right hand from Jamison.
Flay's corner calls for a 1-2. Flay obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.


It looks like John Jamison has been cut.
Jamison throws a body punch but Flay moves out of range.
Flay appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Flay looks to score with a jab to the body but Jamison is just out of range.

Flay fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Jamison to the ground. Flay is now in Jamison's guard.
Jamison wants to stand and escape but Flay is having none of it.
Jamison wants to hit a switch here but Flay passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Jamison there!

Jamison is looking to improve his position but Flay isn't that keen on the idea.
Flay lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Flay is trying to control the action in half guard but Jamison is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Flay thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jamison is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Flay trying to control the position from guard on top but Jamison is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jamison bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Flay's guard.

Flay has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Jamison has passed into side control.

Flay is looking for a sweep.
Jamison is putting a hurting on Flay here, landing some big shots from side control.
Flay is working to avoid the ground and pound but Jamison connects with a decent elbow.
Flay sneaks back into half guard.
Flay makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Flay.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jamison accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Flay is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jamison working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Flay looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Jamison postures up.

Jamison trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Flay controls Jamison momentarily but Jamison frees himself.

Jamison throws a chopping leg kick but Flay manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

Flay fakes the leg kick and cracks Jamison in the body.

Jamison paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Flay misses with a looping left.
Flay throws a hook to the side of Jamison's head but Jamison sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Flay will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Jamison misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Jamison misses with a leg kick.
Jamison lands a nice shot to the body.
Flay feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Jamisons jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Jamison wants to lay and pray for a moment but Flay keeps working.
Jamison is thwarting Flay's attempts to control the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tantalus Flay.
I think Flay has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
