PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Pablo Condor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeet Kune Do (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jeet Kune Do will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Pablo Condor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jeet Kune Do!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Condor.

Condor clinches.
Kune Do wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Condor has him pressed against the cage.
Condor keeps control of Kune Do as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Kune Do can't break the clinch.

Condor has Kune Do pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Condor pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Kune Do tumbling to the mat - Condor dives into Kune Do's guard.

Kune Do is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Kune Do had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Condor is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Kune Do Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Condor's back instead.
Condor rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Kune Do tries to pass to full mount but Condor defends it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kune Do tries to free his leg and advance position but Condor is retaining full guard.

Condor is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Condor escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kune Do gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Kune Do is looking to stand up but Condor won't let him.

Condor is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Kune Dois looking to pass into half guard but Condor pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Condor is in guard.

Kune Do is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Condor is controlling him.

Kune Do is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Condor advances to half guard.
Condor is taking a breather. Kune Do says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Condor seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kune Do does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Condor is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Kune Do is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Condor trying to control but Kune Do is having none of it.
Kune Do is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Condor is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Condor takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Kune Do throws a head kick but Condor moves out of range.

Condor rushes Kune Do and presses him up against the cage.

Condor gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Condor trying to control but Kune Do is working from the bottom.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Condor looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Condor postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Kune Do to stand up.
Kune Do takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Condor closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kune Do is looking to get back to his feet here but Condor is keeping cool and he's managed to take Kune Do's back.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Condor controlling the position well here. Kune Do rolled but Condor kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Condor closes the distance and clinches.

Condor jumps guard.

Condor has his foot on Kune Do's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kune Do works his way back into a safe position though.

Condor looking for a guillotine here but Kune Do defends easily.
Kune Do tries to stand but Condor is controlling from the bottom.
Kune Do must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Kune Do gets to his feet - Condor follows without any prompting.
Kune Do throws a sloppy head kick and Condor moves out of range easily.
Kune Do is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
A head kick misses from Kune Do.
Kune Do fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kune Do throws a leg kick but Condor sees it coming and moves out of range.
Kune Do lands a nice shot that snaps Condor's head back.
Kune Do is breathing heavily.
Condor is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Kune Do.

and Condor counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Condor decides to return to a standing position.

Good exchange - Kune Do coming out on top.
Kune Do throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Condor's head.
Kune Do scores with a nice body kick.

Condor gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Kune Do can't break the clinch.

Condor is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Kune Do can't fight it off and eventually Condor manages to take the fight to the floor. Kune Do looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Condor is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Kune Do has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Condor can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kune Do wants to stand and escape but Condor is having none of it.
Condor lands a couple of elbows.

Condor stands up from Kune Do's guard - Condor perhaps looking for a knockout.
Jeet Kune Do is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kune Do throws a left and a right that both miss

and Condor counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kune Do won't be happy with that.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Condor tries for a kimura but Kune Do is defending well.

Condor looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Kune Do tries to buck Condor off but Condor is having none of it.
Condor wants to control but Kune Do is keeping him busy.

Kune Do is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Condor wants to control but Kune Do is keeping him busy.

Kune Do moves into full guard.
Condor stands and throws Kune Do's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Kune Do tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Condor presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Condor is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Kune Do has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Kune Do regains half guard.
Condor is keen to just control but Kune Do is a slippery customer.

Condor not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Kune Do is staying active underneath Condor, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Kune Do is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Condor perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Kune Do slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Condor slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Condor fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kune Do sprawls well initially but Condor persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Condor working the ground and pound but Kune Do is defending the strikes.
Kune Do wants to get back to his feet.
Condor wants to control but Kune Do is keeping him busy.
Kune Do is looking for a sweep.
Condor throws an elbow but Kune Do slips to the side and avoids it well.

Condor tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Pablo Condor overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kune Do is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Condor's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Condor seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Kune Do is not content to let Condor control the position.
Condor is really struggling to control Kune Do but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Kune Do is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Condor frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Condor working for a guillotine from mount but Kune Do is in no mood to give up.
Kune Do is wriggling around trying to escape.
Kune Do sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Condor stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Kune Do misses with a head kick.
Kune Do throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Kune Do lands a nice looking kick to the body. Condor takes a step back to recover.
Kune Do throws a nice looking combination but Condor bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Kune Do misses with the combination.
Kune Do throws a low kick but it's checked well by Condor.

Condor closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Kune Do is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Condor pulls his head out easily.
Condor throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Kune Do pushes Condor off looking to stand but Condor dives back in and keeps control.
Kune Do is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Kune Do gets full guard.
Condor is pushing down on Kune Do's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kune Do is fighting to maintain full guard but Condor has managed to sneak the leg through.

Condor stands up out of the half guard.
Kune Do rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Condor moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Kune Do manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Kune Do looks like he's trying to stand up.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Condor, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
