PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between William King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Artie DeVanzo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Artie DeVanzo enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, William King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Artie DeVanzo!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, William Gold and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
DeVanzo throws a nice inside leg kick.
King pushes DeVanzo away with a front kick.
King paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
DeVanzo lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
King changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
King does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
DeVanzo buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

A head kick lands from King that sends DeVanzo to the canvas. DeVanzo tries to scramble back to his feet but King brings him back down into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
King in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
DeVanzo is looking to reverse the position.

DeVanzo manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
King tries to roll over but DeVanzo keeps him under control.
DeVanzo working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
King makes his way to full guard. A much better position for King.
King is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

King landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

King not landing any meaningful shots this time.
DeVanzo felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
DeVanzo is trying to defend against the ground and pound but King scores with a couple of nice shots.
DeVanzo avoiding damage under a succession of punches from King.
King controlling the action here.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
King wants to lay and pray for a moment but DeVanzo keeps working.
King winds up and cracks DeVanzo with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

King wants to free his trapped foot but DeVanzo is holding on for dear life with his legs.

King is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
King throwing shots but DeVanzo is blocking nicely.
King has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
King lands with a punch from half guard.
King throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

King looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
DeVanzo controlling the position well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

DeVanzo looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

King is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
DeVanzo avoiding damage under a succession of punches from King.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

William King dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


King swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
DeVanzo throws a jab but it's blocked by King.
King moves out of range of the body kick from DeVanzo.
The fighters circling - King throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as DeVanzo checks a leg kick.
DeVanzo throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
DeVanzo keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Artie DeVanzo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

King drives through with a takedown into guard.
King missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
King postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
DeVanzo looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
King landing some decent shots from guard.
DeVanzo avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
DeVanzo has momentary wrist control but King slips an elbow through the middle.

King throwing strikes from guard but DeVanzo blocks nicely.
King with a flurry of punches that miss.
King wants to control from the top but DeVanzo keeps moving.
DeVanzo trying to control the position.
King preventing the sweep.
King landing with the ground and pound.
King postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
DeVanzo is trying to keep King in close.
King works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Ground and pound from King.
King takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.


DeVanzo is rocked!
King seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
DeVanzo is still in real trouble! Can King finish him?
King wants to lay and pray for a moment but DeVanzo keeps working.
King looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
King frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
King working the ground and pound effectively.
King softens up his opponent with a couple of shots there and then CRACK! One massive shot lands there and DeVanzo is out cold! King jumps to his feet and celebrates on the cage with the fans, who are, quite frankly, going absolutely mental!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). William King!
William King took to the microphone after his victory and thanked his sponsors, DC Unrivaled for their support in the buildup to the fight.
Artie DeVanzo spoke after the fight, saying 'Hey, are we done here? 'Cause I'm losing my buzz. '.
