0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Lamont Banner! The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Daniel Franklin and Sandra Marshall.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Eugemia shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Banner sprawls well. Banner wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Eugemia gets slowly back to his feet. Banner defending well as Eugemia loads up on a big left hand. It seemed like Banner was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Eugemia closes the distance and clinches up with Banner, looking for a takedown. Eugemia pushes Banner against the cage but Banner circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Eugemia throws a half hearted mid kick. Eugemia misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Eugemia. That's going to take a lot out of him. Eugemia closes the distance and clinches up with Banner, looking for a takedown. Eugemia pushes Banner against the cage but Banner circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Banner unleashes a big counter combination but Eugemia bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. Banner scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Banner ducks under a wild hook from Eugemia. John Eugemia seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. That's one minute gone in the round. Eugemia looks to land a body kick but Banner moved away. Banner throws a counter combo. Eugemia avoids a punch combination nicely.
Eugemia closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Banner did well to prevent Eugemia getting side control. Banner is refusing to be controlled, as Eugemia sits in half guard. Eugemia is looking for a kimura here.
Banner preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Banner is looking for a sweep. Eugemia is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Eugemia seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Banner is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
