PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sero Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mikko Rourke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kim kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is CANON in D Korean Version (with gayageum) . Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sero Kim!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mikko Rourke!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Skip Squint and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim swings for the body but Rourke moves out of range.
Kim rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Rourke moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Kim throws a front kick aimed at Rourke's knee but Rourke avoids it well.
Rourke stuffs the takedown attempt from Kim. Kim gets slowly back to his feet.
Kim buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Kim fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Rourke.
Kim fails in his attempt to clinch.
Kim pivots, looking for a leg kick but Rourke is out of range and Kim settles back down.
Rourke looks for a takedown but Kim sprawls well.
Rourke has a takedown stuffed.
Rourke shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kim but Kim pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Sero Kim has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mikko Rourke.
Kim throws a wild body kick that Rourke sees coming a mile off.

Kim shoots and misses

and Rourke holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Kim is trying to break the clinch but Rourke has him pressed against the cage.
Kim unloads a knee to the mid-section. Rourke lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Rourke looks gassed!

Kim has Rourke pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Kim pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Rourke tumbling to the mat - Kim dives into Rourke's guard.

Kim slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Nice sprawl there from Kim as Rourke shoots in.
Kim throws a leg kick which misses Rourke's front leg but catches the back leg as Rourke tries to avoid it.
Rourke chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Kim can pounce on him.
Kim wants to clinch but Rourke slips to the side

and Rourke counters with a shoot takedown. Kim fights it but they end up in guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kim is trying to keep Rourke in close.
Kim wants to get back to his feet but Rourke is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kim has control of Rourke's left arm, preventing Rourke from doing any damage.

Kim is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Kim lands with a left to the head.
Kim is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Rourke tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Kim using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Rourke has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Kim misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Rourke.

Kim manages to break the clinch.
Kim looks to land a body kick but Rourke moved away.
Kim shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rourke as he avoids it easily.

Rourke moves into range and clinches up with Kim.

Rourke gets a trip takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kim is trying to maintain the position but Rourke is very close to passing his half guard.
Rourke is looking to take a break and control but Kim is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rourke is thwarting Kim's attempts to control the position.
Rourke is trying to control the action in half guard but Kim is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sero Kim dominated that round.
That's time! Kim's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Kim tries a head kick but it misses.
Kim stuffs the takedown attempt from Rourke. Rourke gets slowly back to his feet.
Rourke shoots for a takedown but Kim saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Kim misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Kim tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Rourke counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Kim!

Rourke is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Kim wants to get back to full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rourke thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Rourke trying to control from half guard but Kim is working away.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rourke moves out of range of the strikes.

Rourke fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kim sprawls well initially but Rourke persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Rourke is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kim is just riding it out for now. Rourke eventually gives up the hold.

Kim is positioning himself well to prevent Rourke advancing to mount.
Kim misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Kim is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Kim wants to control but Rourke is keeping busy.
Kim keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Kim is trying to control but can't.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Rourke shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kim as he jumps to the side.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kim lands a nice looking kick to the body. Rourke takes a step back to recover.
Kim tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Rourke not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Kim is looking to control Rourke's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kim avoid being mounted?
Kim pushes Rourke off looking to stand but Rourke dives back in and keeps control.
Rourke slips a nice elbow through Kim's hands, connecting with Kim's forehead.
Rourke seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kim does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mikko Rourke showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Kim has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Rourke is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Rourke takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

and Kim counters with a low kick, right behind Rourke 's knee.
Sero Kim is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kim gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Rourke decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kim's guard.

Kim tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kim has momentary wrist control but Rourke slips an elbow through the middle.

Kim is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Kim bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rourke's guard.

Kim would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Kim missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Rourke wants to get back to his feet but Kim is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Kim cracks Rourke with a solid left hand.
Kim is working Rourke over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rourke takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Kim throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Kim misses with a wild combination.
Sero Kim seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rourke tries for a takedown but Kim sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Kim throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Rourke.
Rourke changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kim tries to avoid it but Rourke manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kim to the ground. Kim escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Rourke counters with a single leg into guard. Kim didn't expect that.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Mikko Rourke.
I think Rourke has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
