Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jose Luis Cantero! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Isaac Oh! The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Oh shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Oh showed some decent athleticism there. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Cantero looks like he's trying to stand up.
Oh is nestled in close to Cantero, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Cantero wants to get back to full guard. Cantero tries to hold on but Oh pushes him away. Cantero is looking to improve his position but Oh isn't that keen on the idea. Oh breaks from Cantero's wrist control and lands an elbow. Cantero is in all sorts of trouble here.
Oh is working for a guillotine from mount but Cantero frees his head quite easily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Oh with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A nice elbow there by Oh. Oh looking to secure an arm triangle but Cantero defends it well. Oh looks gassed! Cantero bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Oh looking for a guillotine here but Cantero defends easily.
Oh keeping moving, preventing Cantero from controlling successfully. Cantero lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cantero wants to control from the top but Oh keeps moving. Cantero passes easily into side control. Nice work. Cantero is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Oh knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Cantero tries for a kimura but Oh is defending well. Oh is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Oh is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Cantero is working Oh over with some ground and pound from side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cantero working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Cantero is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Oh knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Cantero trying to control the position but Oh is working away. Cantero thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Cantero decides to take the fight back to the feet. Oh shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cantero but Cantero pushes him off and we're back to square one. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Isaac Oh will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Cantero with a lazy takedown attempt and Oh counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Oh is looking to take a break and control but Cantero is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Oh trying to pass the guard but Cantero defending well. Cantero is looking to control Oh's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Cantero avoid being mounted? Cantero tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. Cantero slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Oh avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Oh pushing down on Cantero's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Cantero regains full guard. Nicely done. Cantero tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cantero is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Cantero is looking for a kimura here.
Oh is trying is best to control the position here. Cantero wants to work for an arm triangle but Oh is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Cantero stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Oh to get to his feet. Cantero bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Oh takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Oh tries to bench press Cantero off him but Cantero keeps the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cantero cracks Oh with a big elbow. Cantero wants to lay and pray for a moment but Oh keeps working. Oh tries to bench press Cantero off him but Cantero keeps the position. Cantero looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Cantero trying to control the action but Oh is working from the bottom. Oh is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Oh wants to control but Cantero postures up. Cantero has hold of Oh's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Oh tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Cantero cranks the arm and Oh screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Oh, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
