27 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Juan Velasquez! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Steve Smith and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carlton just misses with a punch to the body.
A head kick misses from Velasquez. Carlton lands with a good body shot. Carlton attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. Carlton scores with a spinning back kick! Velasquez pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Carlton looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Carlton has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. A solid body kick from Carlton. Carlton throws a left and a right that both miss
letting Velasquez counter with a right hand. Velasquez throws a head kick but Carlton moves out of range.
Velasquez pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Carlton lands with an overhand left. Velasquez takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
It looks like Juan Velasquez has been cut. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Velasquez avoids the body shot from Carlton.
Carlton throws the left hand but Velasquez avoids the punch easily. Sloppy strikes from Carlton. Those never looked like landing. Carlton just misses with a punch to the body.
Carlton uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Velasquez.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carlton moves out of range of the body kick from Velasquez.
Carlton uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Nice uppercut lands for Carlton. That snapped Velasquez's head back.
Velasquez is rocked! Carlton throws a monster overhand right that drops Velasquez! Carlton follows up with more strikes from mount and the fight is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:17 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kyle Carlton! Kyle Carlton is the new heavyweight champion! An out of breath Kyle Carlton thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
