PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mohamed Acevedo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ernesto Bato (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ernesto Bato will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mohamed Acevedo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ernesto Bato!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Viktor Lagutenko and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Acevedo goes for a double leg but Bato avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Bato continues to drive forward.
Acevedo shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bato pinned against the cage. Bato gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Bato changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A head kick misses from Acevedo.
Bato with the counter takedown but Acevedo avoids it easily.

Acevedo closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Bato did well to prevent Acevedo getting side control.

Bato tries to kick Acevedo off but Acevedo keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Acevedo not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Bato is looking to escape.

Acevedo is trying to work for a kimura but Bato is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bato wants to get back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Acevedo really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Acevedo dives in for a single leg takedown but Bato sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Acevedo looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bato is fending him off so far but Acevedo persists. Nope, Bato circles away and we're back to standing.
Bato with the counter takedown but Acevedo avoids it easily.
Acevedo shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bato sprawls well. Bato wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Acevedo gets slowly back to his feet.

Acevedo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bato's waist but Bato gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Acevedo off to one side.
Bato tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Acevedo looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Acevedo throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Bato was covering up waiting for the punch and Acevedo finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bato is looking to stand up but Acevedo isn't so interested in that idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Acevedo stops Bato from standing up.
Acevedo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Bato is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Acevedo presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Acevedo wants to stall.
Acevedo is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Acevedo pushes off an throws an elbow but Bato leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Bato turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Acevedo sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Acevedo is concentrating on defense, preventing Bato from advancing position.
Bato is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Acevedo!

Bato fails to take his opponent's back.
Acevedo is looking to improve his position but Bato isn't that keen on the idea.
Acevedo tries to hold on but Bato postures up.
Bato fails to advance to Acevedo's back.
Acevedo keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bato moves to the back.
Acevedo wants to control his opponent's hands but Bato gets his hands free.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Acevedo can't escape the position.

Ernesto Bato showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Acevedo shoots in and gets a takedown into Bato's guard.

Bato has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Acevedo is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Bato gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Acevedo.

Bato lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bato frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Acevedo is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Bato wants to finish this one by submission but Acevedo is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Bato.
Bato moves to the back position.
Acevedo trying to control the position but Bato manages to sink in the hooks.
Acevedo breaks Bato's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bato wants to stand and escape but Acevedo is having none of it.

And that's the end of the fight!

I think Bato has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
