PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rowan Atkinson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Benjamin St Andre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). St Andre comes into a darkened arena with his song building. When the Saints Go Marching In kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Benjamin St Andre will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Chris Downing and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
St Andre throws a wild body kick that Atkinson sees coming a mile off.

St Andre has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Atkinson is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Atkinson has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from St Andre.

Atkinson tries to counter with a takedown but St Andre is quick to defend against it.
Benjamin St Andre is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That kick from St Andre tenderised Atkinson's leg. Atkinson is trying to keep his angry face on.
Atkinson attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
It seemed like St Andre was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Atkinson's hands are dropping dangerously low here and St Andre connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Atkinson scrambles back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

We've been hearing good reports from Atkinson's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Atkinson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed St Andre's head.

Atkinson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. St Andre doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Atkinson.

St Andre had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Atkinson defends it easily.

St Andre is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Atkinson.

St Andre can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Atkinson controls the pace.

St Andre is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Atkinson defends well.
Atkinson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
