PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Norman Roth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Deair Shaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Deair Shaw will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Norman Roth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Deair Shaw!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Aleksandr Martynov and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Shaw misses.
Shaw misses with the combination.

Roth manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Shaw on his heels. He'll look to pass Shaw's guard now, I'm sure.
Shaw is trying to hold Roth in close to prevent damage but Roth has managed to pass into half guard.
Roth content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shaw is looking to escape.

Shaw kicks Roth off and gets back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Roth misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Roth scores with a takedown into Shaw's guard.

Roth gets to his feet - Shaw follows without any prompting.

Roth closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Roth lands in his opponent's guard.
Shaw is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Roth is controlling him.
Roth is stalling in the full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Roth stands and steps away. Shaw gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Shaw goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.


It looks like Norman Roth has been cut.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Shaw enables Roth to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Shaw manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Roth content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Shaw looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Roth could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Roth gets to his feet - Shaw follows without any prompting.
Shaw avoids the head kick by Roth.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Roth drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Roth controlling the position.
Shaw is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Roth postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Roth stands up and beckons Shaw to his feet.
Good exchange - Shaw coming out on top.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Shaw feints a jab promting Roth to slip. Shaw then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Roth slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Shaw scores with a jab to the head.

Roth has closed the distance and engaged Shaw in a clinch.

Roth has clasped his hands together around Shaw's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Norman Roth will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Norman Roth's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Shaw misses with a low kick as Roth jumps back.

Shaw shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Shaw is looking to advance position but Roth won't allow it.

Roth actively working from the bottom here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Roth manages to get to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shaw wants to stand but Roth is controlling his posture from full guard.
Roth throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Shaw is looking to stand up but Roth won't let him.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Roth is looking for a triangle but Shaw pushes his legs off easily.

Roth working for a triangle but Shaw defends it easily.

Shaw drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Roth dives on top into guard.


That's three minutes gone in the round.

Shaw is working an open guard so Roth takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Shaw clinches with his opponent.

Roth breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Some wild striking there from Shaw.
Roth falls off balance throwing a combination
letting Shaw counter with a right hand.

Shaw throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Roth tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Shaw is in Roth's guard.

Roth is looking to cinch up a triangle. Shaw throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Roth's body to avoid the submission. Roth has instead reached around Shaw's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Roth arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Norman Roth!
