Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Carmine Odonnell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nicko Shoota (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nicko Shoota will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Carmine Odonnell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nicko Shoota!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Ren Mimura and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shoota misses with a double jab

and Odonnell counters with a shoot takedown. Shoota fights it but they end up in guard.
Odonnell slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Odonnell is looking to work some ground and pound but Shoota has wrist control.
Odonnell stops Shoota from standing up.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Odonnell might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Odonnell is working Shoota over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Shoota is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Shoota misses with a series of wild punches.
Shoota looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Shoota throws a leg kick but Odonnell sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Odonnell changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Odonnell dives in for a single leg takedown but Shoota sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Shoota lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Shoota fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Odonnell, pushing him back against the cage.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Shoota won't allow Odonnell to sweep him here.

Shoota got a little sloppy there for a moment and Odonnell has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Shoota has managed to get both his arms back between Odonnell's legs - danger averted.
Odonnell doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Shoota wants to stand and escape but Odonnell is having none of it.

That was a close round but I would say that Carmine Odonnell will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Odonnell feints and as Shoota raises his hands in defense, Odonnell changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Odonnell cracks Shoota with a solid left hand.

Odonnell drops back looking for a leg! Shoota is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Shoota manages to kick Odonnell off! Odonnell jumps back into Shoota's guard.
Odonnell won't allow Shoota to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Odonnell decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Nicko Shoota showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
