These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Derek Harris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Liam McGarrity!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A left lands for Harris.
McGarrity thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Harris if he has to take too many more of those.
Harris tries to score with a low kick but McGarrity moves his leg out of the way.
McGarrity throws a low kick but Harris moves out of range easily.
Harris throws a leg kick but McGarrity sees it coming and moves out of range.
McGarrity doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
McGarrity gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Harris.
Harris's jab looks to have found its range, popping McGarrity under the eye.
McGarrity's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Harris connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! McGarrity scrambles back to his feet.
McGarrity swings away with a leg kick that misses.
An attempted straight right counter from Harris misses the target.
Harris takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
McGarrity looks to throw a body kick
and Harris counters with a lovely straight right hand!


McGarrity is rocked!
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Harris crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from McGarrity - the referee stops the clock and Harris gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says McGarrity. Harris manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Harris lands a nice looking body shot.
Harris moves out of range of the body kick from McGarrity.
An attempted straight right counter from Harris misses the target.
McGarrity throws a head kick but Harris moves out of range.
It looked like Harris wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A head kick misses from McGarrity.
McGarrity throws a half hearted mid kick.
Harris swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
McGarrity throws a half hearted mid kick.
McGarrity throws a head kick that misses
and Harris counters with a nice body shot.
Harris has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
McGarrity misses with a body kick.
Harris checks a low kick from McGarrity.
Harris connects with a single shot there.
McGarrity throws a leg kick
letting Harris counter with a right hand.

Harris cracks McGarrity with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! McGarrity looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Harris finish him?
McGarrity is still on wobbly legs! Can Harris finish him?
This has been an exciting period of action!
Harris throws a leg kick but McGarrity checks it.
Harris avoids the head kick by McGarrity.
Harris cracks McGarrity with a left hook right on the temple and McGarrity goes down! He's out! Referee! Stop the fight! Harris lands a few more punches before the dopey ref steps in - hopefully McGarrity is OK!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Derek Harris!
Derek Harris decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
