PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Rashman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hunter has chosen fix up look sharp (remix) as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jimmy Rashman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brian Hunter!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rashman feints and as Hunter raises his hands in defense, Rashman changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hunter is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Rashman is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Hunter really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rashman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Rashman is pushing down on Hunter's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hunter is fighting to maintain full guard but Rashman has managed to sneak the leg through.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hunter is looking to escape.
Rashman performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Hunter flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Rashman decides to stand and escape the position.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Hunter - that will leave a mark!

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hunter has taken the fight to the clinch.
Rashman could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Hunter drags the fight down to the ground.
Hunter avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Hunter has Rashman pulled in close to control his posture.
Hunter is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Hunter can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rashman controls the pace.

Rashman controlling from the top position.
Hunter preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Rashman won't allow Hunter to sweep him here.
Hunter avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Rashman stands up from guard. Let's bang!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hunter changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rashman looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Rashman gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Rashman really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rashman is controlling Hunter's trapped leg to prevent Hunter from advancing to side control.
Hunter tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Hunter looks gassed!
Rashman is trying to stand up here but Hunter is controlling him well.

Rashman actively working from the bottom here.
Rashman tries to get to full guard but Hunter has control of the leg.

Rashman wants to control but Hunter is keeping busy.
Rashman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Hunter thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Rashman to regain full guard.

Hunter drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rashman dives on top into guard.
Rashman works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Rashman perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Rashman stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Hunter to get to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimmy Rashman dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Hunter shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Rashman counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Rashman.

Hunter pulls guard.
Hunter is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Rashman is controlling him.
Rashman stays in close to Hunter's body and controls the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rashman tries to free his leg and advance position but Hunter is retaining full guard.
Rashman slips nicely into half guard.
Hunter is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rashman thows a huge punch but Hunter dodges it nicely.

Rashman gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Rashman forces Hunter back against the cage and clinches.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Rashman successfully pulls guard.
Rashman lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Hunter!
Rashman tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rashman throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Rashman is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Hunter tries to hold on but Rashman postures up.
Hunter is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Rashman throws some wild stikes that Hunter manages to avoid easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rashman misses with a head shot.
Hunter is in all sorts of trouble here.
Rashman thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Rashman get's back to his feet.
Hunter doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Rashman counters with a single leg into guard. Hunter didn't expect that.

Rashman stands up from Hunter's guard - Rashman perhaps looking for a knockout.
Rashman tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Hunter keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Rashman tries to clinch but Hunter moves away

and Hunter counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hunter looking to sit in guard and control but Rashman gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Rashman controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Rashman stands and throws Hunter's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rashman in side control, throwing shots but Hunter defends.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimmy Rashman dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Rashman feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Rashman stands up and waves to Hunter to follow him.
Rashman is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Rashman shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rashman showed some decent athleticism there.
Rashman is thwarting Hunter's attempts to control the position.
Hunter trying to get back to full guard but Rashman takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Hunter takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Rashman misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Rashman misses with some ground and pound and Hunter recovers position to half guard.

Rashman escapes and gets back to his feet.
Hunter pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Hunter swats away the attempt to clinch by Rashman.

Rashman shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Still in half guard, Rashman seems content to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rashman passes the guard and advances to mount!
Rashman controlling from the full mount.
Rashman looking to ground and pound but Hunter is blocking nicely.
Jimmy Rashman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Rashman looking for a guillotine from mount but Hunter is having none of it.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Rashman cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Rashman throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Hunter because Rashman loaded up on that one.
Hunter wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Rashman.
Rashman can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hunter is looking to escape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rashman punching from mount but Hunter doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Rashman throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Rashman sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Hunter is looking to improve his position but Rashman isn't that keen on the idea.
Brian Hunter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jimmy Rashman is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Rashman stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rashman, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
