Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cristobal Pitts! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brendan Conlon! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Robert Twigg and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pitts ducks under a wild hook from Conlon. Pitts is looking to counter with head kicks. Conlon throws a right and a left that Pitts avoids nicely. Pitts drops down looking for a counter takedown but Conlon sprawls and moves away. Conlon shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Pitts shoots for a takedown but Conlon saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Conlon looking to score a takedown here. Pitts is defending well but Conlon drives through and ends up in Pitts's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Conlon trying to stand up but can't free himself from Pitts's guard. Pitts thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Conlon not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Conlon trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Conlon is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Conlon wants to stand but Pitts has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Pitts being controlled here, momentarily.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Conlon fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Conlon with a poor takedown and Conlon takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Cristobal Pitts has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brendan Conlon. Pitts takes the fight into the clinch. Conlon is trying to force a seperation but Pitts has the dominant position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Conlon avoiding damage as Pitts throws knees to the body.
Conlon jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Pitts walks away with a smile on his face. Conlon gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Pitts tries to close the distance and clinch up but Conlon swats him away and circles back towards the center. Conlon throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Pitts counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Conlon shoots in but Pitts avoids the takedown attempt easily. Pitts thinks about countering with a head kick. Conlon feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Conlon slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Conlon postures up and lands a big shot to Pitts's brow. Conlon passes easily into side control. Nice work. Pitts looking for a sweep but Conlon has passed into full mount! Oh no! Conlon fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Conlon is in the full mount, landing strikes. Conlon prevents Pitts from getting the reversal. Conlon blocks Pitts's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pitts wants to control but Conlon is having none of it. Pitts really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Pitts taking shots to the head. Conlon blocks Pitts's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. Conlon takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Pitts has given up his back here.
Conlon trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Pitts doesn't escape. Conlon has got one arm under Pitts's chin. This could be trouble... Pitts trying to control the other hand but Conlon gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Pitts has tapped out! The fight is over!
