Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Leo Tanner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Juan Pablo Maza!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Aafke Stam and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maza shoots in but Tanner avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Maza shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Tanner napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Maza looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Tanner really is a fat lump.
Maza wants to control but Tanner is keeping him busy.
Maza moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tanner gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Maza takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Tanner might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Tanner is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Maza sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Maza gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Tanner wants to break free but Maza has control.
Maza keeps control of Tanner as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
A frustrated look appears on Tanner's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Tanner is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Maza wants to stand up but Tanner is controlling him.

Maza is pulling down on Tanner's head. It's preventing any offense from Tanner, at least for the moment.
Tanner has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Maza is proving hard to escape from.
Maza not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Tanner throws a strike but Maza rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Tanner throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Maza passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Maza shoots in and drives through. Tanner sprawls well.
Maza misses with a double jab

and Tanner counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Tanner.
Maza wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Maza looking to hit a scissor sweep but Tanner is one step ahead there.
Tanner throws an elbow that misses. Maza uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Tanner's guard. Nice move by Maza!

Maza gets to his feet - Tanner follows without any prompting.

Maza throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Maza swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Tanner counters with a takedown into side control.

Tanner goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Maza has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Tanner but great work by Maza.
Tanner is looking to regain half guard here but Maza keeps moving and retains side control.
You can see the frustration on Tanner's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Maza decides to stand back up.
Maza is looking to chop away at Tanner's legs.
Maza goes for a double leg but Tanner avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Tanner continues to drive forward.
Maza tries for a takedown but Tanner circles away easily
and Tanner counters with a leg kick.
Leo Tanner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Juan Pablo Maza.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Maza wants to stall.
Tanner is looking to take this one to the mat.

Tanner tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Maza smiles and moves away.

Tanner tries to pull guard but Maza holds him up against the cage and eventually Tanner drops back down to his feet.
Maza has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Tanner wants to get back to striking at distance but Maza won't allow it.
Tanner tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Maza is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Tanner wants to break free but Maza has control.
Maza tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Tanner just stands there and leans against the cage.

Maza circles away from the clinch attempt.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Maza gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Tanner makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Maza avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Maza throws a head kick but Tanner moves out of range.
Tanner uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Maza.

Maza has Tanner up against the cage in a clinch.
Maza drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Tanner wants to break free but Maza has control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Tanner can't break the clinch.
Tanner is looking to break free of the clinch but Maza has double underhooks.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Juan Pablo Maza will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Tanner stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Tanner wants it to stay on the feet.
Maza tries for a takedown but Tanner sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Maza shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Tanner but Tanner pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Leo Tanner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Juan Pablo Maza.
Tanner wants to clinch up but Maza keeps it at a distance.
Maza is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Tanner with a body shot.

Tanner shoots in for a takedown but Maza shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Maza is defended easily by Tanner.
Tanner tries to clinch up but Maza circles away and keeps his distance.

Maza throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Tanner's waist but Tanner gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Maza off to one side.

Juan Pablo Maza is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Maza. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
