Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Georges Hughes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Sir Ulrich Von Liechtenstin! The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Peter Branson and Winston Alpacca.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Von Liechtenstin throws a lazy head kick enabling Hughes to counter with a crisp jab. Von Liechtenstin fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nice shot lands for Von Liechtenstin. Hughes shoots in looking for a takedown but Von Liechtenstin manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hughes's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Von Liechtenstin throws a sloppy head kick and Hughes moves out of range easily. A head kick misses from Von Liechtenstin. Von Liechtenstin thumps Hughes with a low kick. Von Liechtenstin throws a head kick that half lands.
Hughes takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Von Liechtenstin connects with a high kick. We've been informed that Von Liechtenstin has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Von Liechtenstin throws a lazy head kick and Hughes counters with a nice double leg into half guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Hughes is working for a kimura but Von Liechtenstin is defending it quite comfortably.
Von Liechtenstin wants to improve his position but Hughes is controlling well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hughes looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Hughes works his way into side control. Hughes has hold of Von Liechtenstin's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Von Liechtenstin tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Hughes cranks the arm and Von Liechtenstin screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Von Liechtenstin, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
