The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Novice shoots in but no luck this time. Novice fails to land with a series of punches.
Franchise fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
It looks like Chuck Novice has been cut. Novice looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Novice closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Franchise to the mat! Franchise manages to get full guard. Franchise looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Franchise escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Novice gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Franchise working a defensive guard here.
Novice controls from within his opponent's guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Franchise is on top in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Franchise trying to control the position from guard on top but Novice is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Franchise passes Novice's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Novice trying to control here.
Franchise wants to work for an arm triangle but Novice is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Novice is trying to maintain the position but Franchise is very close to passing his half guard. Novice moves into full guard.
Franchise stands up over Novice, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Novice is pulling down on Franchise's head. It's preventing any offense from Franchise, at least for the moment. Franchise pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Novice is keeping the position for now. Franchise wants to control from the top but Novice keeps moving. Franchise drops back, looking for a kneebar! Novice looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Novice looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Novice!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Franchise manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Franchise keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Novice is looking to stall here but Franchise recovers full guard. Novice looks gassed! Novice stopping the sweep attempt from Franchise. Novice really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Franchise. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Franchise trying to keep a closed guard but Novice is proving a slippery customer.
Novice trying to control but Franchise is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Novice throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Franchise looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Franchise is on top in guard.
Franchise preventing the sweep. Franchise might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Franchise looking to pass the guard. Franchise is working hard here to advance position. Franchise advances position into side control! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Stevie Franchise dominated that round. The cut man is working on Chuck Novice's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Novice scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Novice tries to score with some ground and pound. Franchise controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Franchise gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Franchise makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Franchise. Novice trying to control the position from guard on top but Franchise is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Novice is breathing heavily. Franchise is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
That's one minute gone in the round. Franchise pushes a forearm under Novice's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Novice is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
