Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Drake Kartella (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nathan Cortez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kartella comes to the cage accompanied by Real G's. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 3, fighting out of Sydney, Drake Kartella!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nathan Cortez!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Summer Carpenter and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice uppercut lands for Kartella. That snapped Cortez's head back.

Kartella gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Cortez slips nicely into half guard.
Kartella wants to control but Cortez is keeping busy.
Kartella works his way to full guard. Good work.
Cortez trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
We've been hearing good reports from Kartella's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cortez is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kartella is aware though and is defending well.
Kartella throws a strike but Cortez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cortez tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Kartella can't do much from the bottom here.
Cortez tries to move to mount but Kartella blocks the move with his legs.

Cortez thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cortez tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Cortez swings around for an armbar but Kartella sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Cortez's guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cortez is on top in guard.

Cortez advances to half guard.

Kartella wants to get back to full guard.
Cortez is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Cortez swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Kartella is now in Cortez's guard. A big mistake from Cortez there, giving up the dominant position!
Kartella has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Cortez pulls Kartella in close to prevent any damage.
Kartella throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cortez works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Cortez is trying to control the position but Kartella postures up.

Cortez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kartella defends well.
Cortez utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Cortez is looking for a triangle here but Kartella uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Kartella wants to control but Cortez is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nathan Cortez dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Cortez throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Kartella tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Cortez is in Kartella's guard.
Cortez stands and throws Kartella's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Cortez tries to advance to mount but Kartella denies him.
Kartella is looking for a sweep.

Cortez goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Kartella has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Cortez but great work by Kartella.
Cortez is not content to let Kartella control the position.

Kartella connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Cortez some visible discomfort.

Cortez is working to avoid the ground and pound but Kartella connects with a decent elbow.

Kartella lands an elbow.
Kartella cracks Cortez with a big elbow.
Cortez regains half guard.
Kartella is nestled in close to Cortez, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Cortez has hold of Kartella's hands but Kartella slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Kartella thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Cortez is looking for a sweep. Kartella is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kartella missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Kartella looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Cortez with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cortez is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Kartella scores with a couple of nice shots.
Kartella wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cortez keeps working.
Drake Kartella overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kartella working over Cortez with some ground and pound. Cortez looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Kartella prevents Cortez from improving his position.
Cortez regains full guard. Nicely done.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kartella throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cortez works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Kartella wants to get up but he can't break Cortez's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Kartella is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Cortez has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Kartella is looking to defend but Cortez has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Kartella! Cortez pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Kartella taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Nathan Cortez!
Our winner, Nathan Cortez, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
Drake Kartella was interviewed post fight and said 'TONY SERITELLA... YOU'RE STILL A BITCH! FUCK YOU!!!!!!'.
