PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Connor McManus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jj Mcgarry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McManus comes to the cage accompanied by Jeff Danna - 'The Blood of Cú Chulainn'. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 16 - 0, fighting out of London, Connor McManus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Jj Mcgarry!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Donald Grub and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mcgarry dives in and grabs McManus's left leg, looking for a takedown. McManus pushes down on Mcgarry's head and hops out.
McManus lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!


It looks like Jj Mcgarry has been cut.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Mcgarry.
McManus appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Mcgarry.
McManus can't do much from the bottom here.
McManus sneaks back into half guard.
McManus is trying to get back to full guard.
McManus has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mcgarry is working away from the top position though.

Mcgarry wants to work for an arm triangle but McManus is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
McManus manages to get to full guard.

McManus is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mcgarry defends well.

Mcgarry drops back, looking for a kneebar! McManus looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. McManus looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from McManus!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mcgarry tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but McManus wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Mcgarry takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

McManus just content to control the position.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Mcgarry tries to bench press McManus off him but McManus keeps the position.
Mcgarry is letting McManus control him for a moment.
Mcgarry is looking to regain half guard here but McManus keeps moving and retains side control.
McManus lands a nice forearm strike.
McManus looks up at the clock and then as Mcgarry takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, McManus smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

McManus is putting a hurting on Mcgarry here, landing some big shots from side control.
McManus is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Mcgarry's shoulder. That is not cool.
Mcgarry tries to buck McManus off but McManus is having none of it.

Mcgarry tries to improve position but can't.

McManus lands a decent elbow from side control.
McManus cracks Mcgarry with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Mcgarry is looking to regain half guard here but McManus keeps moving and retains side control.

McManus is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mcgarry knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
McManus has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
McManus lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Mcgarry down.
McManus lands a few punches from side control.
Mcgarry tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but McManus presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
McManus trying to control but Mcgarry is having none of it.

Mcgarry closes the distance and clinches up with McManus, looking for a takedown. Mcgarry pushes McManus against the cage but McManus circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

McManus has taken the fight to the clinch.
A nice left hand lands by McManus.
Mcgarry is looking to take this one to the mat.

McManus lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Connor McManus overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
McManus is figuring out what he wants to do next.
McManus looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mcgarry with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. McManus connects with a nice short shot to Mcgarry's temple.

Mcgarry throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! McManus escapes and throws Mcgarry's legs to the side, diving into side control!
McManus lands some shots froms side control.
McManus wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mcgarry keeps working.
McManus passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Mcgarry!
Mcgarry is squirming around, avoiding McManus's attempts to control the action.
Mcgarry sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Mcgarry is refusing to be controlled, as McManus sits in half guard.
McManus content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Mcgarry is trying to control but can't.
McManus winds up and cracks Mcgarry with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
McManus takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mcgarry has hold of McManus's hands but McManus slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Mcgarry is not content to let McManus control the position.
Mcgarry is looking for a sweep. McManus is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Mcgarry is refusing to be controlled, as McManus sits in half guard.
McManus seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
McManus scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Mcgarry is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of McManus's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take McManus's back!

Mcgarry is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Mcgarry is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but McManus has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Mcgarry is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. McManus is defending well though. Mcgarry let's go of the attempt for now.

McManus tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
McManus bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
McManus stands up over Mcgarry, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
McManus postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
