Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Qasim Barakat! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Oleg Ljashko! The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Konstantin Menshow and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A leg kick checked by Ljashko. Barakat has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Beauty School in the buildup to the fight. Ljashko moves to clinch but Barakat breaks away and Barakat connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Barakat cracks the inside of Ljashko's front leg. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Barakat, as that shot connected.
Nice shot lands for Barakat. Ljashko moves away from the strike by Barakat. Ljashko swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Barakat appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick. Ljashko wants to clinch. Oleg Ljashko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ljashko wants to clinch. Barakat staying out of range there. Ljashko pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Donk. Barakat catches Ljashko right on the button with a cross.
That's one minute gone in the round. Barakat throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Ljashko on the side of the head. Ljashko takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. A slapping leg kick lands for Barakat.
Barakat misses with an attempted mid kick.
Barakat lands with an overhand left. Barakat throws a leg kick which misses Ljashko's front leg but catches the back leg as Ljashko tries to avoid it. An inside leg kick lands from Barakat. Ljashko tries to clinch up but Barakat circles away and keeps his distance. Barakat was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Ljashko misses with a left hand and Barakat counters with a nice leg kick. Barakat is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches. Ljashko tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. Barakat lands a leg kick that knocks Ljashko off balance momentarily. Barakat lands with a right hand. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Barakat misses with an uppercut. Ljashko saw that one coming. Ljashko with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Barakat to score with a decent uppercut.
Ljashko is rocked! Barakat lands an uppercut, right on the button! Ljashko tumbles backwards into the ropes, staring vacantly into space! He's got no idea where he is, who he is or what day it is... Poor guy.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Qasim Barakat! After the fight, Qasim Barakat was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
