PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lester Burt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gary Busioni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lester Burt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gary Busioni!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Busioni looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Burt is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Busioni throwing shots but Burt is blocking nicely.
Burt moves into full guard.
Busioni has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Burt looking to control.
Burt tries to land a sweep but no joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Busioni showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
It looks like Busioni might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Busioni should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Burt not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Burt utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Busioni postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Burt gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Busioni is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Busioni stopping the sweep attempt from Burt.
Burt is working hard here to advance position.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Burt is on top in guard.

Busioni is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Burt stays in close to Busioni's body and controls the position.

Busioni looking for a guillotine here but Burt defends easily.
Busioni is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Burt throws a big elbow that misses.
Burt trying to control the position from guard on top but Busioni is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Busioni has control of Burt's left arm, preventing Burt from doing any damage.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Busioni feints and as Burt raises his hands in defense, Busioni changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Burt wants to sweep but no luck.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Burt is looking to sweep but instead, Busioni has passed into half guard.
Burt tries to get to full guard but Busioni has control of the leg.

Busioni seems to be working for a kimura but Burt defends the submission attempt.
Well, if Busioni is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Burt tries to get to full guard but Busioni has control of the leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gary Busioni dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Busioni shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Burt napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Busioni tries to advance to mount but Burt denies him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You can see the frustration on Burt's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Busioni sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Burt is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Busioni tries to advance to mount but Burt denies him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Busioni wants to take a breather but Burt manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Busioni.
Burt looking to hit a scissor sweep but Busioni is one step ahead there.

Busioni throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Burt works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Busioni gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Burt shoots in for a takedown but Busioni shows good takedown defense.
Burt throws a head kick that misses.

Busioni shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Busioni with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

The fighters are battling for position here. Burt manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Busioni won't allow Burt to sweep him here.
Busioni has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Burt is proving hard to escape from.
Busioni trying to control but Burt is working from the bottom.
Busioni pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Burt is keeping the position for now.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Burt tries to strike from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Lester Burt is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Burt enables Busioni to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Burt manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Gary Busioni showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Burt lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.


It looks like Gary Busioni has been cut.
The fight stays on the outside here - Busioni looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Busioni shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Busioni is taking a breather. Burt says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Burt is looking to control Busioni's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Burt avoid being mounted?

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Busioni tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Busioni stands up and beckons Burt to his feet.
Gary Busioni seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Burt fails with an attempt to clinch.
Burt scores with a jab. Busioni acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Busioni tries to close the distance and clinch but Burt swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Burt fails with the takedown.

Burt gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Burt manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Busioni manages to get himself to full guard.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Busioni. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Gary Busioni comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Busioni winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
