Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, David Bugaev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Stan Up! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Steve Erwin and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Up thows a left - swing and a miss! Bugaev thows a left - swing and a miss! Stan Up seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Bugaev scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Bugaev wants to control but Up is keeping him busy. Bugaev sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Up defending well though. Bugaev prevents Up from standing back up.
Bugaev thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Up is trying to stand up here but Bugaev is controlling him well. Up won't allow Bugaev to pass to mount. Up really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bugaev. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Bugaev wants to work for an arm triangle but Up is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bugaev throwing shots but Up is blocking nicely. Up pushes Bugaev off looking to stand but Bugaev dives back in and keeps control.
Up makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Up throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Bugaev sees it coming and avoids it easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bugaev uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Up. Sloppy strikes from Up. Those never looked like landing. Up rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bugaev moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Bugaev showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Up.
Stan Up is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Up on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Bugaev lands a glancing blow to the side of Up's head. Bugaev throws an overhand right from the outside, which connects and sends Up stumbling backwards into the cage! Up bounces back off the cage towards Bugaev, who cracks him with a two punch combination that drops him to his knees! Bugaev lands two more shots before the referee has chance to intervene - what a finish! Bugaev celebrates with his corner as the crowd cheer loudly.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). David Bugaev!
