Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Shaun Acosta!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jan Kowalski!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Vladimir Khabensky and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kowalski moves into the clinch.
Kowalski slowing the pace effectively.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Kowalski takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Kowalski has clasped his hands together around Acosta's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Kowalski is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Acosta wants to control but Kowalski postures up.
Kowalski controlling the position.
Acosta wants to get back to his feet but Kowalski drags him back down.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Acosta tries to bench press Kowalski off him but Kowalski keeps the position.
Kowalski tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Acosta is trying to control Kowalski's posture but Kowalski avoids it.

Kowalski stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Acosta lands with a shot to the body.
Kowalski stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kowalski wants it to stay on the feet.
Kowalski appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

Kowalski clinches.

Acosta pulls guard effortlessly.
Kowalski is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Kowalski landing with the ground and pound.

Kowalski thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Acosta is trying to control the position but Kowalski postures up.
Kowalski stays in close to Acosta's body and controls the position.
Kowalski's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Kowalski wants to pass the guard but Acosta is keeping the position.
Kowalski in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Kowalski is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Acosta shoots in but Kowalski avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Acosta gets tackled into the cage by Kowalski. Kowalski maintains the clinch.

Kowalski jumps into guard, dragging Acosta to the mat.

Kowalski had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Acosta defends it easily.
Kowalski throws a couple of heel strikes.

Kowalski has his hands on Acosta's head, controlling the position.
Kowalski wants to hit a switch here but Acosta passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Kowalski there!
Kowalski holds of for dear life.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Acosta throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Kowalski shoots in and bounces Acosta off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Acosta has a closed guard, preventing Kowalski from standing up.
Kowalski wants to stand and escape but instead Acosta has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Kowalski looking to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kowalski looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Kowalski looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Acosta has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Kowalski is pulling down on Acosta's head. It's preventing any offense from Acosta, at least for the moment.

Kowalski is trying to control the position but Acosta postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kowalski is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Kowalski is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Kowalski looking for a sweep. Not yet Kowalski, not yet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Kowalski closes the distance and clinches.
Acosta is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Kowalski to keep the fight standing.
Acosta can't break the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Acosta breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kowalski leaves Acosta with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Kowalski has managed to clinch.
Acosta wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kowalski has him pressed against the cage.

Kowalski turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Acosta is trying to control Kowalski's posture but Kowalski avoids it.
Acosta takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Kowalski is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Acosta knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Kowalski has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Kowalski has hold of Acosta's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Acosta seems comfortable defending it but Kowalski has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Acosta is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Acosta is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Kowalski couldn't care less - he's delighted!
