The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Donatello Bradman and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Russell checks a low kick from VonBrunn.
VonBrunn throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
VonBrunn moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
It looks like Wiremu Russell has been cut.
Russell has taken the fight to the clinch.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Russell misses with a punch on the inside.
A head punch on the inside from VonBrunn fails to land.
Russell prevents a takedown attempt there.
VonBrunn has had enough of the clinch but Russell keeps him there for the moment.

VonBrunn wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
VonBrunn throws a head kick that misses.
Russell throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Russell uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by VonBrunn.
Russell takes one to the side of the head.
VonBrunn will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Russell closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
VonBrunn has Russell pushed against the cage.

VonBrunn prevents the takedown attempt.
Russell tightens his grip and picks VonBrunn up, before dumping him to the ground. VonBrunn manages to land in guard.

Russell is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, VonBrunn has escaped the position, nice work there.
Russell is breathing heavily.
VonBrunn manages to work his way to half guard, despite Russell's best efforts.

VonBrunn bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Russell's guard.

VonBrunn has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Russell is proving hard to escape from.
Russell is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

VonBrunn must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Russell has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but VonBrunn can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
VonBrunn keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Russell's head.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

A close round but James VonBrunn will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Russell tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but VonBrunn swivels and escapes.

VonBrunn lands a jab to Russell's midsection.
VonBrunn goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
James VonBrunn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
VonBrunn rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Russell moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Both fighters circling slowly here as the pace drops. Hopefully one of them does someth.. OOOHHHH!!!! VonBrunn throws an absolute beast of a head kick! Russell is done! He's out cold, twisted and contorted up against the cage! Wow!
