PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between PJ Grant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mason Dixon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mason Dixon will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, PJ Grant!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mason Dixon!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dixon slaps away a takedown attempt from Grant, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Grant tries to clinch there but Dixon circles away.
Grant tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dixon swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Nice sprawl there from Dixon as Grant shoots in.
Grant tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Dixon gets tackled into the cage by Grant. Grant maintains the clinch.
Grant lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Dixon scores with a hook to the body.
Grant with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Dixon tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Grant with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Grant definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dixon cracks Grant with a nice body shot.
Dixon lands with a short shot to the head.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Dixon.
Dixon can't break the clinch.
Dixon looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Dixon is trying to force a seperation but Grant has the dominant position.
Grant is trying to pull guard but Dixon turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Dixon told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for PJ Grant. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Grant keeps control of Dixon as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Grant swings wildly with an uppercut but Dixon uses good head movement to avoid it.

Dixon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Dixon keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Grant takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Grant shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Dixon defends it nicely.
Grant is looking to clinch.
Grant shoots in for a takedown but Dixon shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

PJ Grant seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Grant is breathing heavily.

Dixon wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Dixon misses with a wild body shot.

Grant doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Dixon counters with a one-two to the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Grant shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Dixon fails to land with a series of punches.
Grant seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Grant could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Dixon throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Dixon lands a jab to the nose.
Dixon throws a series of punches but Grant avoids them all with ease.
Dixon connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Grant doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Grant.

Dixon misses with a wild body shot.
Grant tries to close the distance and clinch but Dixon swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Dixon lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Grant circles away quickly and effectively.
Grant avoids a punch combination nicely.
Grant looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dixon is fending him off so far but Grant persists. Nope, Dixon circles away and we're back to standing.
Dixon misses with the combination.
Grant fails in his attempt to clinch.
Dixon misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Grant.
Grant darts in trying to clinch
and Dixon counters with a straight right hand.
Dixon misses with a straight left.
Grant shoots in for a takedown but Dixon shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
As Grant backs off Dixon throws a huge counter combo but Grant manages to avoid it all.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Grant with a poor takedown
and Dixon counters with a series of strikes. Grant will be more careful next time no doubt.
Dixon ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Grant moves away.
Dixon throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Jab, jab by Dixon - just one landing.


Grant is rocked!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Dixon lands with a big left! Grant is wobbled badly! Dixon comes in with a flurry of punches and drops Grant to the floor. The ref jumps in to save him from unneccessary punishment.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Mason Dixon!
A relieved looking Mason Dixon thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
