2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bary Windam! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Windam misses with a wild combination.
Melkonian decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Windam kicks Melkonian off and gets back to his feet. Melkonian shoots for a double leg takedown but Windam sprawls well. He's pushed Melkonian's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. No joy there for Melkonian, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Windam misses with a two punch combination.
Melkonian darts in looking for a takedown but Windam gets double underhooks and turns Melkonian into the cage. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Windam swinging wildly here.
Windam scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Windam works Melkonian's body with a nice hook. Melkonian shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Windam kicks off Melkonian and gets to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Melkonian throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Windam tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Melkonian is in Windam's guard. Melkonian wants to stand but Windam has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Windam scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Windam scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Windam with a hook. Melkonian shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Windam is trying to defend but Melkonian finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Windam is defending against the submission attempts here by Melkonian.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Melkonian wants to lay and pray for a moment but Windam keeps working. Melkonian looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Windam is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Melkonian pulls his head out easily. Melkonian is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Windam has managed to free his arm - good work. Melkonian seems to be looking for submissions.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Windam is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Melkonian's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Melkonian's back! Melkonian defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
Melkonian is trying to get back to his feet but Windam has full control of the position and if anything, Melkonian has just worked his way into a worse spot. Windam working for the choke. Windam is hanging on to Melkonian's back as he tries to escape.

Bary Windam dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Windam feints and then cracks Melkonian's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Melkonian down. Melkonian shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Windam sprawls well. Windam wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Melkonian gets slowly back to his feet. Melkonian bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Melkonian tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Melkonian has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Melkonian in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Melkonian wants to control but Windam is keeping him busy. Bary Windam has got the better of the ground game so far. Windam is trying to improve his position. Melkonian tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Windam controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Melkonian swings around for an armbar but Windam sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Melkonian's guard. Windam is looking to work some ground and pound but Melkonian has wrist control. Windam drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Melkonian manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Windam has Melkonian in his guard. Windam is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Melkonian looking to pass the guard. Windam is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Melkonian not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Melkonian loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Windam working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Melkonian doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Melkonian manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Windam wants to stand up but Melkonian is controlling him.

Windam can't do much from the bottom here. Windam dodges the ground and pound from Melkonian. Windam tries to escape but Melkonian is in control. Windam tries to improve position but can't.

Windam lands a glancing blow to the side of Melkonian's head. Melkonian fails with the takedown. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Melkonian with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Windam to score with a decent uppercut. Melkonian shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Melkonian was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Windam throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nice uppercut there from Windam. Melkonian fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Windam now looks to counter with a shot at the body. Windam throws a body shot but no joy. Melkonian drops down looking for a counter takedown but Windam sprawls and moves away. Excellent takedown into side control there by Melkonian. Windam bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Windam gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Windam keeping moving, preventing Melkonian from controlling successfully. Windam is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Melkonian is aware though and is defending well. Melkonian wants to control from the top but Windam keeps moving.

Windam looking to hit a scissor sweep but Melkonian is one step ahead there. Melkonian trying to control the position from guard on top but Windam is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Windam looking to control.
Melkonian has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Melkonian working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Melkonian decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Melkonian throws a right and a left that both miss. Windam gets tackled into the cage by Melkonian. Melkonian maintains the clinch. Windam is trying to break free. Melkonian tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Windam just stands there and leans against the cage. Melkonian successfully pulls guard.

Windam presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat. Melkonian tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Windam just stands there and leans against the cage. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Monte Melkonian. That's going to take a lot out of him. Windam is trying to break the clinch but Melkonian has him pressed against the cage. Melkonian fails to pull the fight into his guard.
