Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ngoc Bamh! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Luca Taparzo! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Tiny Johnson and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Taparzo is looking to clinch but Bamh is avoiding it.
Taparzo connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Taparzo jabbing away but nothing is landing. Some bone on bone action there as Taparzo checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Taparzo thows a left - swing and a miss! A jab from Taparzo misses. Taparzo avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Taparzo throws a big shot that misses. Bamh appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Bamh takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Taparzo stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Taparzo checks a low kick from Bamh. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Taparzo works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Bamh avoids the body shot from Taparzo.
Bamh half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Taparzo misses with a hook. Bamh appears to be looking for a big counter. A combination from Taparzo does no damage. Bamh walks into a left hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bamh looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Taparzo is fending him off so far but Bamh persists. Nope, Taparzo circles away and we're back to standing. Bamh looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Taparzo bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Taparzo fails to land with a series of punches.
Taparzo listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Taparzo keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Bamh displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Taparzo throws out the jab. Taparzo moves out of range of the strikes. Taparzo misses with a body shot.
Luca Taparzo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Taparzo looks to score with a jab to the body but Bamh is just out of range. Taparzo swings for the body but Bamh moves out of range.
Bamh changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Taparzo throws the left hand but Bamh avoids the punch easily. Bamh steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Taparzo. Bamh feinted with a counter takedown. Bamh's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Taparzo connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Bamh scrambles back to his feet. Taparzo moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! A slow jab from Taparzo misses its intended target. Bamh misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Taparzo.
Taparzo tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Nice uppercut there from Taparzo.
Bamh is rocked! Taparzo cracks Bamh with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Bamh tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Taparzo pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Bamh is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Luca Taparzo! Luca Taparzo is the new light heavyweight champion! After winning the bout, Luca Taparzo thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility. In defeat, Ngoc Bamh stepped up to the mic, saying 'No worries, folks. Given my opponent's history of repeatedly testing positive for performance enhancing drugs, I'm confident this fight will be ruled a No-Contest and he'll be suspended yet again.'.
