Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thiago Alonso! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sotiro Poulos! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Gwen Towbar and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Poulos tries for a takedown but Alonso circles away easily and Alonso counters with a lovely straight right hand! Poulos shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Alonso counters with a stiff right hand. Poulos dives in for a single leg takedown but Alonso sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Alonso is looking to counter punch. Thiago Alonso has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sotiro Poulos. Poulos tries for a takedown but Alonso circles away easily letting Alonso counter with a right hand. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Poulos closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Poulos takes a little break here. Alonso wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Poulos passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Alonso! Alonso squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Poulos is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Alonso has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Alonso is trying to stand. Alonso knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Poulos on the ground. Alonso is squirming around, avoiding Poulos's attempts to control the action. Poulos is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Poulos sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Alonso is trying to stand. Poor strikes thrown by Poulos there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Poulos wants to finish this one by submission but Alonso is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Poulos. Alonso on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Alonso tries to get out of the position. Alonso is trying to stand up. Poulos controlling the pace for now. Alonso wants to try and get back to his feet. Alonso definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Poulos with good strikes from the mount here! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Poulos looking to control but Alonso is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Poulos has hold of Alonso's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Alonso manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Alonso trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Poulos thowing shots but they're missing. Poulos has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Poulos is working for a guillotine from mount but Alonso frees his head quite easily.

Poulos trying to control but he's not successful this time. Alonso's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Sotiro Poulos dominated that round. That's time! Alonso's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Poulos looking to score a takedown here. Alonso is defending well but Poulos drives through and ends up in Alonso's guard. Alonso is looking to stand back up but Poulos counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Alonso. Alonso is not content to let Poulos control the position. Poulos stops Alonso from getting back to his feet.
Poulos wants to take a breather but Alonso is having none of it. Poulos moves into full mount! Alonso won't be happy about that! Alonso is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Poulos has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Alonso's face.

Poulos has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Poulos controlling the position easily from mount. Alonso really wants to buck Poulos off and get back to his feet. Poulos swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
